Question: Where can I have an old poetry book valued!?
My father has shown me a First Edition (not dated within the book but could be circa 1894) leather-bound volume of "Scott's Poetical Works" (the spine carries that description, the front cover has just "Scott" in gold leaf) The title page reads the "Complete Poetical Works of Sir Walter Scott"!. It includes the poem "Marmion" in which Canto 6 verse XV11 carries a phrase inspirational to a few POMs who post on this forum!. (you know who you are) That connection gave me goosebumps!. When the book is closed the pages glow gold!. (gold leaf trim!?)

My Dad received it with his subscription to Encyclopedia Britannica circa 1960 (yes he got the whole set and year books up to 1970 I think)

Google search was not conclusive as the date of publishing is unknown!. It is located in Australia!. Any help is appreciated!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

My librarian is a brilliant man who has given me a great deal of information!. I would check with my local library to obtain a reference for the search!. Used book stores are another invaluable reference; they know value!. You may also check any antique stores in your area!. Sometimes a face-to-face search will give you better results than an on line search!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

There are sites on the net which value for free but the two methods I have found to be most reliable are these; www!.antique-central!.com/appraisals
and ebay! ebay is a fantastic source for getting appraisels!. If you cannot locate an item similar to yours for sale!.!.!.you can go to the groups section of ebay and ask your question to the antiques group!. they allow you to submit a picture to help with identifcation even!. good luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Is this the book!?
http://cgi!.ebay!.com/Sir-Walter-Scott-Com!.!.!.

There may be others on e-bay that match it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Don't you love those old books!. I have a padded black A5 book of Victorian poetry, the leaves of the pages are gold!. It feels as if I am holding a bible actually!. Unfortunately the cover is now repaired with sticky-tape as it was coming apart!.
I'm glad you asked the question - I bought a book recently The Works of Charles Dickens (household edition) Christmas Books, by Chapman & Hall 193 Piccadilly!.!.!.not dated!.!.!.but probably early 1900 with all the original drawings in it!. Some prat has written Christmass 1993 To my darling husband etc!. inside the cover which spoils it a bit!.
I shall now find out if these are rare (not selling them, though)Www@QuestionHome@Com
