Question: Are lessons learned early easy to forget!?
A Daughter Learns Early

Young girl reached out, but no one was there
Abandoned by mother pursuing affair
Older brother and sister had lives of their own
She turned to her father, this girl not yet grown!.

Come to my bed, I'm lonely too, said he
Together abandoned we'll no longer be!.
But soon his strange cuddling did feel wrong
Young girl knew in this bed she did not belong!.

She mustered her courage, tried to say no
Her father, he angered, said this you must know
As long as I put a roof over your head
You'll do as I say and come to my bed!.

What right have you this refusal to say
I'm the one hurting while mother's away
I still have needs that must be met
You owe me this pleasure, my child I'll pet!.

The act itself left no physical scar
But lesson learned early she carried afar
Into adulthood her purpose, imprinted, made clear
Never say "no" to those you hold dear!.

It matters not if you they abuse
Your needs with theirs, never confuse
Though they will hurt you with not a care
You must serve them, always be there!.

This is about how a parents abuse and it does not have to be sexual can cause that person to have a problem with setting boundaries for others which causes them to get used and run over!. It is a vicious cycle that can be broken with God's help!. Joyce Meyers has teachings on this and the problem associated with people who were abused in childhood!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I can't tell you how greatly this affected me!. I pray it was cathartic for you to write!. You have incredible courage to post this and I really admire you for it!. Yes, the lessons are learned early, not to complain, not to tell, and to self-blame for the abuse!. I want you to understand that I am here for you as a friend, being a survivor myself!. we never forget!. Your other poem on this subject is the more powerful of the two, I feel!. My opinion only!. It's so hard identifying one's own needs,
but in this case it is virtue to be selfish, as I found out the hard way!. You can never be there for someone else till you are there for you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The message/ lesson, painful!.
The writing, wonderful!.

I say a prayer for all of those who have suffered through abuse of any kind!.
Mental and physical abuse I survived, thank God that's all there was!.
I do hope this poem is not from experience!.
Blessings to you!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yikes!. While not a victim of this form of abuse, your words are powerful and speak of a common response in other forms of abuse as well!. So hard to explain the "subservient" mindset of those who have been thru this and the like!. you hit it!. thank you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I greatly fear that the lesson learned will be impossible to forget!. Although I have known a few who experienced this situation, a couple were able to put it aside and have a normal life, but they never forgot!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

That children have had to learn these kinds of "lessons" hurts my heart!. How anyone can hurt a child is beyond me and something I will never ever understand!. I thank God, I had the dad I did!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Your poem reminds me of why I'll be working pro-bono for a particular organization after I graduate!. Thanks!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

This has a ballad feel to its presentation, but it works since what are ballads but stories in verse!? No drama here, just matter-of-fact, which makes it all the more chilling!.

I suffered no molestation, but emotional blackmail!? well lots of us had that!.!.!.!.'If you cared about me you wouldn't go out and leave me alone like this (Dad, as usual at the pub)!.!.!.or 'You go out and enjoy yourself, I'll be okay here on my own, again'!.!.!.so often I didn't go out after all!.

Very well written!. That's all I can say!.
