I just had to sneak one in!.

I saw a man aged some seventy years
A kindly soul as to his nature!.
A man much admired by all of his peers
Though bent somewhat in stature!.

The summer shone in his craggy face
For many were his year’s outdoors!.
A man much content knowing his place,
Naming creatures by their spoors!.

All in town knew him as old Hez,
Shortened from Hezekiah!.
Atop his hoard head perched a fez
Held at the chin by a wire!.

Hez had chopped away at the roots
Of an old dead oak tree,
As tough as the nails in his old boots
Took a rest upon one knee!.

Offering to take on the task myself
He nodded in agreement!.
Going to his home he took from a shelf
A bottle of liquid refreshment!.

In between tots we soon had the job done,
I sitting on the old dead tree!.
He returning to the shelf for another one
Or was it two, no I think three!.

As steady as a rock when coming upon Hez
Now weaving my way home to retire!.
So walk on by if you meet a man with a fez
It may be the tippler Hezekiah
