Question: Have any other writers gone through this!?
Where nothing you've written seems to be worth it, no fresh ideas are coming to you!. You feel washed out and uninspired!. As if it's all been for nothing!? You know, when that high you get after you've spent a considerable amount of time on something and suddenly you surprise yourself, and you feel satisfied, then suddenly that satisfaction takes a plunge and you feel like you might never pick a pen up again!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

You've got "THE BLOCK!" No writer of any kind, at any level has ever escaped the block!. It is a fact of our lives!. All you can do is write your way out of it!. Keep a journal and write in it every singe day, accepting the fact that most of it will be junk, and that that is okay!. Most important, be prepared because when it finally breaks, stuff will flow out faster than you can write it down!. Good luck!

From: In a Poet’s World
(Writer’s Block)

I!.
In a poet’s world there is the dull,
hard ache of the empty page, the idle pens,
the incessantly flashing cursor, and the words
which spiritus mundi refuses to unleash!.

In a poet’s world there is the frustration
of the wrenched rhyme, the trite rhyme,
the mixed metaphor,
and of syntax altered beyond all recognition
for the sake of rhythm and meter!.

In a poet’s world there is the often futile
search for something they call “inspiration”
or, when inspiration comes at last,
there is the deficiency of craftsmanship!.

II!.
So this is what and how it’s going to be:
I have two little rooms I call my own
but they’re not!. Only the humming fish tank,
the sound of passing cars, and from time to time,
an apathetic yawn enables me
to break the morning silence!. So I hone
in on those sounds and thus I hope to yank
or wring some significant, sublime
bit of inspiration; but I fail
once again to find the proper words;
I cannot build the proper metaphor!.
It’s only then I come to realize
no matter how I sulk or how I wail,
the art depends on intellect, not birds
or puffy clouds or breezes!. Please, no more!
My poem is failing, right before my eyes!.

III!.
I’ve hit it!
I’ve absolutely hit the wall
Falderal!
And for the sake of putting
ink to paper I am writing
Utter nonsense, triviality,
Unapologetic banality,
Just to write…
Just to fight
The block,
The writer’s block,
I’ve hit the wall
Falderal!

To art I’ve made a sacred bond
Instead, I’ll wave a magic wand
and turn the stupid, idle clatter
into something acceptable,
something I pretend will matter!.
I’ll prattle in my journal filling
notebook after notebook
I must write!
I must fight
The block!

Happens all the time to some degree!.

I change what I have been doing as a routine and just refuse to worry where my focus escaped to!. Instead of fretting and stewing over the verse I wanted to work on, I'll edit some photos, or take a day trip to take photos, work longer in the garden and yard, read a book, answer nonsense questions in polls and surveys or stay at the jobsite longer,,, in other words, just about anything to make a change in my routine until I feel the muse start to nudge me again!.

Sometimes it's mere hours,,, sometimes it is days or even weeks until I finally get that boulder off my shoulder!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Writers block is common for all writers!.What I do is play with words ,watch tv , daily routines, children at play, pets, even food anything in my surroundings or something from the past!.lol even the fact that I can't think of a poem to write!. By the time I finish playing with words from the things I mentioned I find a poem even if it's short or doesn't rhyme!.!.!.!.!.!.Inside the mind is poetry waiting to create on paper!.!.!.By the way I also draw, color or paint or clean, cook to inspire writing of song or poetry or both!.!.!.!.Blessings YahooWww@QuestionHome@Com

It is called writer's block and I look at it like miss placing your keys, you know they are there!
You just can't find them! It seems it you can't find them when looking for them!.
They show up when your not looking for them, unexpected, then there they are!

So give your mind a break do something different and lo all of a sudden it is flowing out of the yin yang (everywhere) So just relax and do something different, don't force motivation it will come---hope this helps!
Cheers!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes i have and have had a dry spell for sometime now!.Suddenly as it stopped i will see something or hear something and it will get me motivated again!.When i have much grief going down it blocks my soul and nothing wants to come around' but it does come back before too long!.I believe all people no matter what they do in life ' get these dry spells' but soon a poem will come to you and you;ll write some down and wait for the rest to join!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The journal is an excellent idea!. I write prose and experiment with rhetorical devices and tropes in my prose writing!. I also read voluminously, and everywhere I see something I make a note!. I have never had "the block" and I've been writing all my life (now age 53); I am easily inspired!. Don't feel the obligation to write a poem unless you feel you have something to say!. Finally, we all go through physical cycles of energy and health!. Do some good hard exercise 4 or 5 times each week for an hour and write soon after you're done!. It does wonders for me!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I have gone through these periods many times when I am bereft of any muse!. I read poetry, even my own, like mad when this happens!. I have also made a point of writing down my dreams as I find that in a self analysis of them, I become inspired to write, or draw!. Sometimes I go back to poems that I wrote long ago and rework them, for the practice!. I hope this helps!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Focus on one thing and one thing only!. And realize that what you write about it does not have to be comprehensive, only true in terms of what you are saying about it!. For instance:

Sunshine
has a light all its
own

That makes
everything
EXPAND!.

____
There, true, but limited to one property of the thing being discussed!. BOKO!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

This might be just me, but I find that watching movies is quite helpful in obtaining ideas!. Other than that, I can just point to living life!. You never know what's gonna pop up!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Try writing poetic responses to questions!. A lot of those I have taken later and reworked into what I feel are good poems!. It gets you going!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
