Love bugs now in flight,
lumbering along their way,
well into the cool of night,
hundreds coupled, seen by day!.
Upon my shirt they land,
worn from mating in mid air,
winging about, everywhere I stand,
to see them, no need to stare!.
Every single year, two short seasons,
devoted to bugs in our face,
without rhyme or reasons,
whatever brings them to this place!?
On windshields they surely splatter,
walking and jogging under sun,
I’ll soon be as mad as a hatter,
believe me, this ain’t a lick of fun!.
The season is short, soon it’ll pass,
once past, the clean up can begin,
until then, bugs everywhere, enmass,
even in that glass of tonic and gin!.
Chants and prayers fail to work,
what else could possibly be tried,
to rid ourselves of bugs with a quirk,
believe when I say, they’re no good fried!.
Purpose remains unresolved for me,
what possible function can they serve,
I’ve asked far and wide, guess I’ll let it be,
soured looks from all, maybe all they deserve!.
As some of you know, I reside in Florida!. Folks are always claiming we have only two seasons,,, hot and not so hot!. I disagree!.
Not only do we have hot and hotter,,, we also have tourist ( twice a year )
we have a six month long hurricane season, and for those of you not in the know, we have two extra, little known, special seasons of love bugs!. Granted some of the seasons are ill defined and do overlap a bit!.
This is my tribute to love bugs,,, those silly little bugs that mate in flight, can nearly ruin a paint job, get in your hair and in your mouth!. Pesky little critters!.
