MY LIBRARY

The wordplay is spent, I'm all out of ammo,
Ask me for poetry!? I'll send you a memo!.
Back to my books, my prosaic redoubt,
History and Bio is what I'm about!.

The Facts and the Figures, and Dates to recall,
Cultures and People, the Rise and the Fall!.
Disasters, Elections, Money and Fame,
The eras are different, the message the same!.

Teddy and Winston and Old Blood and Guts,
A book and some coffee and cigarette butts!.
Battles are raging, men's lives on the line,
A fat leather chair, two glasses of wine!.

Select a new tome and find its bookmark,
Off then to Capetown, or perhaps Menlo Park!.
Adjusting the light (shan't hurt my two eyes)
Plato and Caesar, the Wright brothers fly!.

Arranging and playing with catalog schemes,
An incomplete task, or so it so seems!.
Beautiful books arranged row by row,
Dickens and Byron and Henry Thoreau!.

Tactile delight as I peruse through each page,
Samuel Clemens on the Gilded Age!.
It's like losing a friend when I finish a book,
So lovingly closed, and back in its nook!.

What to read next!? The need always there,
For reading and writing and lexicon fare!.
Gladdened and saddened by this library of mine,
There's so many books!. And so little time!.
