Question: Margaret Atwood's poem morning in the burned house and variations on the word sleep!?
these two clearly express the theme identity, however in what way does the poem "morning in the burned house" portray it!. i believe that the poem "variations on the word sleep" portray it as a person willing to give up their identity for the sake of love!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

V!. perceptive, choosing identity as a theme for "Burned House"!. I think in that poem, the persona was mourning the loss of their "old" identity, the self that they had come to know, but also seemed to be trying to orient him/herself with the new environment in which s/he must attain a "new" (or modified) identity!.

"Sleep" looks like a longshot for identity though, although your interpretation seems pretty sound!. But I think to say they would "give up" their identity is a little strong!. For me, it feels more like they are willing to sacrifice some aspects of their identity, for love!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
