Homecoming
Today my beloved man-child comes home
Five days in detox for living with booze
Bottle in hand, pain in heart he did roam
Nine months of his life, were wasted, a ruse!.
Nine months in womb my babe gestated
Healthy 10 pound, first born son
Blessed day of his birth long awaited
His chance at life had begun!.
Today, with nervous anticipation
I'll see him walk through front door
A mother's heart in somber celebration
Knowing he must begin his life once more!.
This time though, it's not up to me
Any labor I do is in vain
I gave him life only once, you see
Success remains his choice to gain!.

Yes, birth is a one time thing!. He, on the other hand will have a re-birth of sorts!. You will be his only link to his past, if he is successful at sobriety!. His 'friends' are not friends anymore!. His social life will be completely changed!. And, he will replace one addiction with another!. What he chooses will re-shape his personality!. And, you are his anchor in the storm!. I speak as one mother to another,
We give birth,
We watch them grow
WE love them
Nurture them
We want the best for them
Then we let them go!.
What happens after we let them go is we offer love, support and have to trust that we have instilled them with the courage and strength to fight their personal demons!.

My thoughts:
We are here to love our children, not live their lives or change their lives!. They make most of their own choices!. It is not right to abandon them nor is it right for them to use you!. We must find a balance where we can still hold on and let go!. It is a thing no one can tell you, you have to find it on your own!.

A terrible thing, addiction!. All you can do now is pray and offer unconditional support, which may be VERY difficult, especially if he thinks he's strong enough to handle this alone!.
