Question: Why does this poem have a hidden meaning!?
From 'Beloit Poetry Journal' in 'The Best American Poetry, 2007'

Hide-and-Seek 1933
by Galway Kinnell

Once when we were playing
hide-and-seek and it was time
to go home, the rest gave up
on the game before it was done
and forgot I was still hiding!.
I remained hidden as a matter
of honor until the moon rose!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The hidden meaning is that although she was a member she was an outcast in that they did not even think about her when they gave up the game!. Her attempt to gain honor is to endear herself to the group by showing her strength!. Interesting poem!.

One question to ask is why did the moon's rising allow him to go home!. My take is that you never give up on anything in life!. The moon rising could be relative to passing away and the honor is not giving up on living when everyone else has!. It could be construed as holding on to hope!.!.!. or it could be what is on the surface , one person with no way to win, continuing to fight the battle!.

I'm not sure I answered the question, I basically was commenting on the what I got out of the poem!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If it does, it's because the poet wanted it there!.

But does it!? That is for you to decide!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
