The southern end of the veranda
held a boy
pinned to his steel chair pinned
to his spider gaze
and the mountain in his forefront
heaved with the wanton wind
with every passing blame
and this nerve would never
last and the steel turned
blue and the chair winged its way
through the ugliest trees
he'd ever seen, perched swallows'
screaming cackles
and dinner was the last thing
on his mind!.
She never met his eyes
never saw the desperate twitch of skin
never knew his eventual
break-

This one is a haunting puzzlement to me, but what I'm feeling when I read it is a tortured boy getting high out on the veranda to gain enough courage to get lucky with his date, but gets so high, it's an ugly trip, and though he may have gotten lucky, he was so far gone, they never connected emotionally, he wasn't even there!.

Whatever the 'correct' interpretation is, we get lost in the story and feel it, even if we aren't quite sure what it is!

Another nice one Buk!. I never got to go to either of my proms!. Two days before my junior prom I was attacked by a guy as I was walking home from a store with a little girl I was babysitting after school ( not in this area) !. We were both injured but fortunately a car came along before he could do too much more!. My back was injured !. Our senior prom was canceled by the principal of the school!. Yeah, he was super sweet and I was shallow!. He was shorter than me and put his head on my shoulder when we danced!. But it was the BEST date I had ever had still to this day!.
