Question: Is this to your liking!?
The Maid Of Roverdale!.

Thus I spoke “O why, thou poor maid of Roverdale,
why do thou weep so bitterly on this early morn!?”
Surprised she looked at me with a face so very pale,
her uplifted features tear stained and piteously forlorn!.

With cautioned effort she replied with trembling lip,
"Sir, they have taken my man to sail in yonder ship,
which doth lie at anchor in Roverdale's curved bay!.
In truth I have not eaten for many a cold, cold day!.
I worry what is to be come of us now we are alone,
for we have neither family, friend, money nor home"!.
Then I noticed the bundle held closely to her chest,
she moved the garment to show me a baby at rest!.
I saw a girl child so pale in it’s deathly countenance,
I could but sigh, and did I avert my sorrowful glance!.
It was with piteous feeling I did offer her my hand,
gratefully she took but hardly was she able to stand!.
"Thank you kind sir", she said in courteous reply,
"I am comforted by your kindness to one so poor as I"!.
"Child you break my heart, come home with me” I said!.
"Sir, first I must bury my child for I know that it be dead”!.
In gentleness I took her child, so cold and so lifeless,
and I living alone; perchance this maid my home to bless!.
A mile she slowly walked in the direction of Roverdale,
but slipped from my arm to the cold ground of the vale!.
I looked across the bay, the ship had sailed on the tide,
Thus in my garden these two forever sleep side by side!.
A day will come when her man will again return to shore,
knowing not his wife and child are now gone for ever more!.

Damn - I just lost my long, erudite response!.!.!.!.
Here goes again!. I think you and An Honest Man are trying a full-frontal assault on A!Y poetry in an abortive(!?) attempt at a take-over!.
Sorry, gentlemen, you won't win!.!.!.!.you will get the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune in the shape of 'You what!?' 'Wot you on about' 'Huh!?' etc!.
The poem is sublime in its construction, you have conveyed so well previous centuries when life was harsh, yet emotions were sentimental!.
But, you will find this 'pearls before swine'!.!.!.I salute your attempt!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

In its sensibilities this is not unlike Tennyson's "Enoch Arden," though obviously it is much briefer and tells a different tale!. Sir, you have written a wonderful narrative poem and are to be praised equally for your talent and for sharing it with us!. Warmest regards!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You shape and form your thoughts into words masterfully!. To see all the wasted paper on shelves in bookstores and not see your works at least in equal space is truly the sad end to this tale you've woven!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If I could only describe what you could pen, then I could tell you the intense greatness of your narrative poetry and how much I liked it, even the sadness that broke my heart as if it were real!. I sat on the edge of my seat getting closer and closer to the face of the computer!. And then it ended!.!.!. too soon!. Oh! but could you be there in another narrative to find and greet her 'poor man' when he returns!? My best reading today!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
