Question: A pome I just rit (sic) Do you like it!?
When Death Paid Me a Visit

When Death and I came face to face
It was just a normal day!.
He punched me in the stomach,
And took my breath away!.
What had I ever done to him
To warrant this attack!?
And, not satisfied, with this
He kept on coming back!.
He shadowed me
each miserable
drawn-out
dreary
day,
Never letting me forget him
and his ultimate selfish aim!.
He took away my appetite,
He put a halt to all my schemes
And, in no uncertain terms,
He showed who owned my dreams!.
I thought I was immortal
And destined to rise each day
Until that awful moment
When Death came by my way!.
But, do you know something, friends!?
I'm glad that he stopped by!.
Because I was taking life for granted
Never thinking of when I'd die!.
Routine and the daily grind
Had me gagged and tightly bound
But now I view in Wide Screen
With Glorious Surround Sound!.

Never ever forgetting
When Death just called around!.

I faced Death last December - it also changed my life!. I no longer have to go to work - something I am still trying to get use to - because I was defined by my job!. Now, I am finding myself all over again - and forcing myself to enjoy - no longer having to get up at 5 AM!. ?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well that had some kick to it, and I really like the two lines prior to the last two where you whipped the depression!. I live my life as if there is no tomorrow; I make goals like there will be a tomorrow!. If your always prepared you'll never have to pack or say goodbye!. ttfnWww@QuestionHome@Com

Powerful, it's quite incredible how nature can completely change our perspective and our lives and for once, show us what really is important and precious!. You are a true survivor, Granny, thank you for the lesson in life!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Did I hear John Donne ghosting on that first line!?

Classical shades and mellow, thoughtful colouring!.

Hello Grannyjill,

Really excellent poem!. I also like the visual you give with the lines as if your life itself is balanced on the tipping point!. The narrative flows very nicely in this one!.

In deed a well penned and inspired take on how our courage responds to our accepted mortality!. (Now, the critic in me speaks: There is one section which I feel escapes the rhyming pattern of the rest!.
"He shadowed me
each miserable
drawn-out
dreary
day,
Never letting me forget him
and his ultimate selfish aim!."

I would be tempted to change "aim" to "way"!.)

(I know some folk avoid rhyme in serious contemplative themes, but this shows, it need not be a steadfast rule!.) May your good health continue!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

This is probably one of the best poems about death I've read!. It's descriptive and poignant without been too dark and overwhelming!. The images you create are really fabulous!.
I especially like the "Routine and the daily grind / Had me gagged and tightly bound" That's how it is most of the time, isn't it!? I know because I've been there myself!. Death came knocking on my door, but I turned him away too!. It's amazing how these experiences change you in ways you never imagined!. Anyhow, I'm so glad that you are well now!. Thank you for sharing this experience with us!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
