Question: What do you think of women's clothing!?
The Sundress
by C!.S!. Scotkin

You’re old fashioned, he said!.
I’m not twenty!.
And this dress is my favorite!.
I know you think it’s plain!.
But look at the subtle weave,
the number of threads to the inch!.
And the color! Have you ever seen a color
reflect summer like this!?
The cut is simple!.
I like simple clothing!.
It is soft, it breathes !.
It gives me pleasure
feeling the skirt rustle around my legs
when a breeze catches my attention!.
Costly fabric, hand made from finest flax!.
It took a long time to find the right pattern,
but the sewing of it was simple!.

He bowed over my hand and kissed it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

As a lover of fabric (more wools than linens, to be honest) this poem rather moves me!. This sentence, in fact, makes no sense; therefore I like it very much:

It gives me pleasure
feeling the skirt rustle around my legs
when a breeze catches my attention!.

Is the fabric hand-woven or hand-spun!? If the latter, you have included the obvious and charming pun on distaff; but I ask half seriously: at least in wool, artisanal weaving typically results in nicer fabrics that actually have less than impressive thread counts!.

(Ignore this technical comment please: what usually happens is that the weaver would start with very rare yarn that had the tensile strength theoretically to be spun to, say, 180 hanks per pound, but takes the astonishing luxury of ordering it spun to 120 hanks instead, resulting in, say, 11 oz!./yard cloth rather than 7 oz!./yard!. The thicker yarns result in a lower thread count and a less fragile cloth; but the fabric is still incredibly luxurious because of the quality of yarn and the unevenness of weave, if done by a real shuttle rather than an air shuttle!. Sorry about that; I really did enjoy this poem, just for itself, too!.)Www@QuestionHome@Com

This is a perfect description of beauty in simplicity!. also, of the work that we put into something that seems so simple, like a relationship!. This is a beautiful metaphor for the fact that what makes a relationship is complex and beautiful and interwoven, but that the cut is simple, that is how it looks to others, who do not understand!. Thank you for the intricacies, and for the picture perfect ending!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Again - judging a book by its cover!. The dress is appreciated for how it feels, how it was made and the quality of the fabric - its versatility and completeness!. The cloth itself is not in question - only the cut!. If the wearer has any sewing savvy - adjustments may be made to bring the garment up to speed!. An old saying is - "Wait long enough - and everything eventually comes back in style" ?Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'm not sure I could wear that!. I would be out of character!. There is NOTHING subtle about me!. I love how you see yourself and the ability to relate something simple ( a dress) to something complex (you)!. I don't believe the last line, tell the truth, there was more kiss to it than that!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Like the "subtle weave" of the fabric you speak about, the poems subtly weaves a message for those who love the word!. It does take "a long time to find the right pattern," sometimes a lifetime, but you have found it in this poem!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
