"A Brave and Startling Truth" & "Still I Rise" by Maya Angelou are my all-time favorites, but the poem that is tied around my heart like a bow today is "To a Skylark" by William Wordsworth!. My nickname is Skylark, & my thoughtful, sweethearted boyfriend just sent the poem to me!.


To A Skylark

UP with me! up with me into the clouds!
For thy song, Lark, is strong;

With clouds and sky about thee ringing,
Lift me, guide me till I find
That spot which seems so to thy mind!
I have walked through wildernesses dreary
And to-day my heart is weary;

There is madness about thee, and joy divine

Lift me, guide me high and high
To thy banqueting-place in the sky!.
Joyous as morning
Thou art laughing and scorning;
Thou hast a nest for thy love and thy rest,
And, though little troubled with sloth,
Drunken Lark! thou would'st be loth
To be such a traveller as I!.
Happy, happy Liver,
With a soul as strong as a mountain river
Pouring out praise to the Almighty Giver,
Joy and jollity be with us both!
Alas! my journey, rugged and uneven,
Through prickly moors or dusty ways must wind;
But hearing thee, or others of thy kind,
As full of gladness and as free of heaven,
I, with my fate contented, will plod on,
And hope for higher raptures, when life's day is done!.

I don't have a favourite, there are far to many poems from different poets i love for different reasons!. At the moment my favourite poem is this one by Lucretia Maria Davidson written when she was 16!.

Envy Of The Lost Rose

To be in love is what she sought,
At least that's what she thought,
Now she loves all by chance,
It's nothing like true romance,

Hopes held high, till the very end,
Calm and unaware of what was about to attend,
A deed worse than any petty crime,
He had lost her heart for the final time,

Now she knows what she has done,
All she can do is try and run,
What she did was follow her heart,
Now it's left all broken apart,

Wishing not to die in shame,
Wanting to be all the same,
Looking down beneath the skies,

Chocolate-Covered Dreams

In my chocolate covered dreams,
I sample
Nougat-filled, mouth-watering
Nightly confections,
Syrup from cherries staining
My sated mouth,
Dark, bitter chocolate
In tantalizing shapes,
Buttery fudge,
Lumpy with wonderful walnuts,
All there for me to choose!.
Shelves overflow as I sleep,
Small candy kisses spilling
Into each dream segment,
Truffles in delicious paper pockets,
Clouds of coconut covered
With thin, shiny chocolate wraps,
Toffee crunchy enough to waken me,
Caramels hiding like secrets
Within folds of sweet milk chocolate,
Raisins, plump and healthy
Basking in little dots of chocolate,
Topless strawberries
Wearing dark chocolate underpants,
Clusters of peanuts hiding together
Within safe mounds of chocolate!.
You say this is only a dream,
But can you explain why my scales
Show a weight gain each morning
And my pillow smells suspiciously
Like a Milky Way!?
