Question: Help me with this poem please!.!?
Wood tick!.

The spring day the teen on his bike slanted his caucasian eyes
At my eight year old beautiful daughter
And taunted gibberish
I was eight years old and the Japs were
Enemies of Canada and the big white boys
And their golden haired sisters
They were walking together, crowding me
Off the path of the mountain, me running
Into the forest to escape
Getting lost and fearing woodticks
Who burrowed into your scalp and could only be
dug out by a doctor with hot needlles
Listening for the guiding sound of their laughter
To lead me back to the path and
Following from a safe distance unseen
Running past their laughter
Home vowing never to go again to the mountain
Alone - and my daughter whispers to walk faster
Though i tell her there are no
Woodticks in Saskatoon

I need help Explaining the Meaning of the poem's title and how it relates to the events in the poem

I also need to explain the irony of the last three lines of the poem in relation to the first threeWww@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
The "wood ticks" are a metaphor for racism- racism gets ahold of you and it's hard to get its "teeth" out of you, so to speak- you begin to feel worthless and afraid, the way the speaker felt when he was eight and being taunted by the children!. The irony of the last three lines is that the girl is afraid of something that doesn't exist- the speaker is saying "racism isn't a problem here, you have nothing to worry about!."Www@QuestionHome@Com

The physical reality of wood ticks is that they burrow under the skin and continue to cause pain and irritation long after you first encounter them!.

The speaker of this poem is a Japanese-Canadian parent who remembers racist harassment from his or her own youth (the memory has metaphorically embedded itself under the skin and still causes pain years later) and feels that memory awakened when his or her daughter encounters more of the same!. There may not be wood ticks in Saskatoon, but there are human racists!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

i think that wood ticks is not actually referring to wood ticks!. Almost everything in this poem is a metaphor!. So I think wood ticks is actually referring to some type of person!.!.!.!.probably an enemy to this guy!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

i believe it is about racism and the poem talks about inner strength that we find when we have to keep our head up high and walk a way from things of that nature!.!.!.!.!.
