"Celia, it's all your fault!. You'll find my bloated body in the pool!. Farewell!. Umberto!." She stumbled out, the note in her fist, and saw me, floating face down, like a giant fly marooned in Jell-O!. When she leapt to rescue me, and remembered she couldn't swim, I got out!.Www@QuestionHome@Com Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Well, it's a joke, but kind of a lame one!. Here's what I get out of it: This is narrative poem that tells the story of a couple who find they no longer love each other the way they used to, but the man is less in love than the woman!. He decides to trick her by pretending to be dead!. We know immediately it is pretend based on the line beginning with "She!." It could only be a she if he knew it--or was writing the poem!. His assumption, "she leapt to rescue me" shows that he is taking advantage of the remaining feeling she has for him, but this will probably end it!. I don't think he would let her drown, but that isn't stated, so he might!. Ultimately, it is about the cruelty of love!. We, as people, have a great capacity for cruelty, and can be the meanest to the people we "love!." This is because we know them the best!. have you ever heard the saying "familiarity breeds contempt!?" That is this situation!. This man would probably never do this to a friend, or a lover, but his wife--he really knows her--knows what he hates about her--and knows a significant weakness!. His exploiting that weakness is the ultimate act of cruelty and betrayal!. Interesting piece!.Www@QuestionHome@Com It's a humorous bit of prose!. The guy is sick of his wife or girlfriend for whatever reason!. So whether it is right or not, he casts blame on her for all the bad things that cause him to want to end his life!. He sees her reading the note, assumes "dead man's float" in the pool to lure her in, knowing full well she cannot swim!. But she loves him a lot, therefore, she throws caution to the wind and jumps in the pool to "save him," only to drown herself!. Obviously, his trap worked and she drowned, letting him off the hook of their relationship!. I can try here goes: It was her fault that he or she was in the pool drowned, it looked like!. I'm guessing it was a he, maybe it's even a love poem about how much that person does care enough to try to save the other even though they can't swim, and when the other person gets out the one that can't swim is there to drown!.Www@QuestionHome@Com well, that's one way to off the ol wifey-poo!. sort of a romeo & juliet, sans love!.
