Thanks for the poem; here are your answers:

Meaning: She basically says that "man" has raped the wilderness that was Australia and that she applauds what's left of Australia's "nature" to fight back against the expansion of "man" into the wilderness!. She likens man's conquest to that of a self-poisoner of the environment, savagely taking and raping the land in an effort to kill the land while killing "himself" (i!.e!. "man")!. This is very typical of the hyper-environmentalist movement of the 60's and 70's where the "enlightened" wanted to live in harmony with the trees and flowers, etc!., and not that "that" is a bad thing, but it would relagate civilization to a pastoral existence of herding sheep!. In any event, that's the "meaning" of the poem!.

Hidden messages: there's not too much hidden in this poem; she pretty much speaks her mind and says that man is bad, nature is good!.

Tonality: the tone is one of disgust with her "people" and pity for what's been lost, while feeling pride in the knowledge that part of Australia continues to fight back!.

Related Emotions: angst, futility, loss, sadness, anger, and disgust!.
