Question: Poems that rhyme are shallow!?
Poems that rhyme come from the head and not the heart!. The first initial sentence comes from the heart and then your head/ brain starts to go through the alphabet looking for a rhyming word!. Example- All of the demons that burrowed deep!. Then your brain says meek, leak, keep, sleep, and you chose one that fits the best!. Although it may be a very good poem with good meaning it isn't from the heart and soul!. I'm not saying a rhyming poem can't be good, I am saying they can't be felt!!!Just a friendly opinion!. How do you feel!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Free verse makes use of every word!. Done right, free verse places importance on each one!.

Rhyme, in the hands of the amateurs on this site, makes for forced lines of crap!. People try to fit words to a scheme, instead of making the scheme fit the words!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think you should look up "rhyme" as it pertains to poetry!. It doesn't ever have to be exact!. You can rhyme only the consonants (consonance) or the vowels (assonance) or you can play with eye rhyme: Mars and wars, for example - they look like they should rhyme but they don't!.

Whichever words you choose for your poem, make sure that the form and the content are reflective of each other!. If you're talking about being tricked or duped or being uncertain, an eye rhyme is an appropriate choice!. If you're talking about hollowness or loneliness or!.!.!. the vastness of the ocean, you can rhyme long "O" sounds (for example)!. Short vowels can be rhymed when expressing lighter topics, or a when using quicker meter!.

There are lots of ways to make your poem cohesive using rhyme without making those rhymes exact or shallow!. also, don't be misled into thinking that free verse is somehow the opposite of rhyming poetry!. It is, by definition, a far more fluid concept!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

In Praise of Free verse Alvin Sepert!.

Free verse is best better
than rhyming because
it comes from the heart
well not literally the heart
because that is a blood pump
that sometimes fails
or gets furred up from cholesterol
so really it comes from the brain,
which is strangely the same
as where rhyming comes from!.
so perhaps there is a free verse brain
with no rhyme or rhythm or meter
and a rhyming brain this and the other
Like a Ford Ka compared to a GT40

For how can one ryme
one's thoughts all the time
or express one's passion
when rhyme's out of fashion

but free verse frees the mind
from constraints
and even from complaints
That it does not rhyme!.

A pidgeon,
A lamp post
a used tissue

frisson
Fusion!. just an illusion

Ok I admit it
Free verse is crap!.

on a serious note

If you need to search for a rhyming word,
backtrack, because
you should never end a line
without the consequent rhyme
already in your head!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I agree with you, but only to a degree!. I don't like when people think poems HAVE to rhyme and spend all their energy to make sure it does!.!.!.in the end the point of the poem is lost!. I do believe that there is something to be said for rhyming poems, more for enjoyment i suppose, and less for getting across a message!. Personally I enjoy non-rhyming poems for the same reason you do, as they seem more genuine and less contrived!. A non rhyming poem flows better metaphorically speaking, whereas a rhyming one is a play upon words and less about deeper meaning!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The heart and soul are inarticulate!. To express anything in language you need to filter it through the brain, and in fact, very often you don't know what's in your heart until you put it into words!.

Writing a rhyming poem can help your creativity because while searching for a rhyming word, you'll come across ways of saying things you wouldn't have found otherwise!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I disagree, I understand what you are saying, I do!. For me the first sentence and the title are hard I feel the entire poem, and what I want to say, I say, I just look for a way to say it that rhymes!. I try to make the whole poem from my heart!. I think practice improves the heart feltness of the thing!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

you're definitely correct with respect to modern day upcoming poets!. many believe that a poem must rhyme and so words with suspicious semantic currencies are preferred like - sticks/ticks

That is true but at the same time no one ever said that using your brain was bad in a way!. I mean sure its not pure from the heart but maybe you take it in better if it rhymes!. Then you rememer it better!. And than its catchier!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
