Question: Is it possible for a prose writer to quickly compose poetry in free verse without long hours of preparation!?
Freedom

By Warren Domke

My feathered wings are spread and my feet trail behind me,
The wind gathers below and lifts me toward the sky,
Gentle now, I hear the wind rushing past tiny ears!.

And my keen eyes search the ground!.

If I so choose, I can call friends who inhabit the winds with me,
But I am also free to soar alone!.

I am sufficient in myself!.
If I hunger I may dive and seize that creature on the ground!.
If I thirst I can always find water!.

I depend on myself alone,
I am truly free!.

(I generally plan my day from its beginning to its end!. This little verse just popped out of my head!. Do I need brain surgery!?)Www@QuestionHome@Com

This poem beautifully illustrates the behavior of a bird of prey!. You get into its head and make the reader soar with the bird!. I envy that bird for being "truly free!."Www@QuestionHome@Com

Sometimes the best stuff just pops out!. Wouldn't it be nice to actually have that kind of freedom!? Anyhow, am more of a structured, rhyme and rhythm kind of writer, but I have been learning to appreciate the well written free verse and have experimented with free verse myself!. Yours is an example of well written free verse!. It is very good and the imagery is wonderful!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You cannot plan when your muse will bemuse, so it is always a blessing!. This is a wonderful free verse poem with splendid imagery and sense of flight and theme of freedom!. I think your brain must be in perfect working order to have written it!. Keep your day and your heart open to these impetuous and inspired works!. Thank you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Soaring alone and being truly free is not a symptom of needing brain surgery! :-)

It seems you've done all the necessary surgery on your own!.!.!.!.!.

In answer to your question, I believe you already know the answer is yes!.

"Oh how my heart trembles and weeps with joy and gifting applause!."Www@QuestionHome@Com

You are following the same format as your other poetry!. This is good work, but show me more than tell me so much!.

The single word Alone, takes out a lot of explanations!.

I like the poem, very much, but you have not yet broken free from the prose you write so often!.!.!. I await that breakthrough!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think you know the A to your Q, is yes!
Free flow out of no where
is my best, but not my
finest yet!.
Some times it makes no sense
to wonder why winds send tokens blessed!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It all starts with some Beatles song!.!.!.

"I'm fixing the hole
where the rain gets in
and starts my mind
wondering!.!.!."Www@QuestionHome@Com

I do it all the time!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Poetry and prose are different although they are both forms of writing!. Well you've got experience in writing, from writing prose!. You do need a different kind of routine for poetry!. Just as in different sports you need to activate and strengthen different muscles [stupid example but it just kind of occured haha], you need to learn to, not THINK differently, but learn to get used to the way to express in different kinds of writing!.

They are both about expressing yourself and putting your thoughts on paper!. And thoughts are thoughts, so poetry or prose-those are just ways you choose to make it vivid to others!.

Everyone has thoughts and everyone can write!. So pretty much all you need is talent to put it all nicely on paper, and routine!. Everyone can do it if they just free themselves and enjoy that way of expressing themeslves!.

And I like your poem, nice work!Www@QuestionHome@Com

though my favorite flavor of poetry is more concrete in its pattern, rhymes, etc; as far as free verse goes, I thought your poem was excellent!. you have a lot going on it; first, the visual, you put the reader somewhere, that is always good i think because we're not just stuck thinking about a concept with no imagery; second, the statement you make about the importance and value of autonomy and self worth in that you ground it in the context of freedom; which is always difficult to hammer down!. To liken yourself to the free roaming bird who is seemingly king of all he surveys, and to use the analogy, as you did, to sell your agenda that we should live our own lives, in reality, not metaphorically, as your speaker, you, do in your allegorical poem, is to uplift the spirits of your readers and ingratiate them with you!.
so the answer to your question is yes, it is possible for a prose writer to do quickly compose in free verse!. but so it is with the patterned and more conservative style of poetry as well, which still has a massive audience!. try that now and then too; continue to explore, you do have legitimate talent; keep freeing those thoughts, you're not crazy, you're human, and though all humans seem a bit crazy, there's a place for works like this, if nowhere else, at least then in opinions of scattered readers such as myself!. i thoroughly enjoyed it, so keep refining your efforts, and keep flying!Www@QuestionHome@Com
