From My Window

Out from my window I can see
Beyond our yard to the sidewalk tree
Where when I'm sick on a rainy day
I’m forced inside to have my play

I see Red Robin who bobs his head
I wonder if on worms he’s fed
He puffs his red breast out so strong
And chirps away his morning song
Then he sits upon my window sill
And chirps away his song until
He seems to tire and needs a rest
Then flies up to his little nest

And down below I see our pond
Where live the frogs of which I’m fond
I wonder if they really choose
To live down in that muddy ooze
Or if somehow they’re only stuck
And forced to live within that muck
And what their eyes can really see
When they stare big-eyed back at me

And now I see our little doggie
Who from the rain is so darn soggy
I can already hear the fuss mom'll make
When he comes inside and starts to shake

So many puddles await outside
For me to splash and slip and slide
At least from here I still can see
Out to the places I’d rather be
