Nothing Gold Can Stay
by: Robert Frost

Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold!.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour!.
Then leaf subsides to leaf!.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day!.
Nothing gold can stay!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Okay!.!.!.this is short, and very easy to remember:

Chili Dogs

Chili Dogs and onions
Cheese and ketchup on the bun
The two I ate just made me sick
Next time I'll eat just one

by: Kevin M Sorbello

Sounds silly, huh!? Only there's more here than initially meets the eye!. First of all, it's a rhymed quatrain with an abcb rhyme scheme!. Secondly, the image is sharp, and so is the comment on human nature: when we encounter something that we like, but affects us badly, we think that moderation may solve the problem instead of avoidance!. If we put our hands in the fire we wouldn't think to put it only a little into the fire, because we don't "like" putting our hands into the fire, but when we're involved in a relationship that hurts us, we try to find ways other than leaving the relationship to make it hurt less!.!.!.and that's "irony"!. The figurative language comes into play in that the hotdog is actually a metaphor for what we like, the chili and other items are things that make what we like taste better!.!.!.and the "sick" feeling is the result of our doing what we know is wrong!.!.!.when it feels so right!. The sounds of the language used makes the poem seem deceptively light and fun!.!.!.but that's how deeper subjects are often presented!.!.!.in a way that makes us smile before we reflect!.

So, it's a short poem that echoes in your head and has more to it than others with far more words!. Hope you like it, and if you don't use it, I hope you found it at least a little enjoyable!. It was first published in a monthly periodical a few years ago and has since made the rounds online!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

BEAUTY
John Masefield

Have seen dawn and sunset on moors and windy hills
Coming in solemn beauty like slow old tunes of Spain:
I have seen the lady April bringing in the daffodils,
Bringing the springing grass and the soft warm April rain!.

I have heard the song of the blossoms and the old chant of the sea,
And seen strange lands from under the arched white sails of ships;
But the loveliest things of beauty God ever has showed to me
Are her voice, and her hair, and eyes, and the dear red curve of her lips!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Mind~ over matter wouldn’t suffice
Your~ flooded feelings overwhelming
Within~ memories tainted vice
Thoughts~ of if, when, where and how!?
The~ situations aren’t to blame
Were~ you mad!? Did you succumb!?
What~ in life, brought on your pain!?

As I was walking up the stair
I met a man who wasn't there
He wasn't there again today
I wish I wish he'd stay away!.
