Breakfast Safari
by TD Euwaite

The rutted road rolls underneath
My old Ford truck as it rumbles
We stumble down forgotten paths
In search of some more fresh Morchella

Mushrooms unlike little Alice’s
No daydream in my morning endeavor
All I want is some scrambled eggs
With sautéed shallots and scallions

Now junior, how do you expect to have hallucinations if you don't eat your 'shrooms!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Breakfast at Seward Park ('cause I wouldn't take the bus to Tiffany's)

Sitting on the bench, watching thirty something old Chinese men and women performing the slow, peaceful, and exquisitely graceful ballet they call T'ai Chi!. A block North there are Puerto Rican and Dominican teens competing in an almost friendly game of half-court basketball!. Across the street are electronic shops and shops for religious articles and books, the former run by lovably obnoxious Israelis, the latter by frocked and bearded Chasidim - New York City's answer to the Amish!.
And at my side, a breakfast from the neighbor hood - a sesame seed bun, una taza de cafe con leche, and something that is God's way of showing His infinite love, cream cheese and lox on a bagel!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Nice work, displaying your typical fine technique!. I like the alliteration in lines 1-2, and the rumbles-stumble rhyme!.

The second stanza doesn't seem quite as powerful as the first, though I like the Alice/mushrooms allusion -- I have no suggestions!. As I said, nice work!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Oh, how I miss real breakfasts!. Now, I just have toast!. Your poem is an inspiration to go to the Produce Warehouse and buy some real food, for a change!. Beautiful imagery of rutted road and stumble down forgotten paths!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
