The Black Bishop
by TD Euwaite

See a black square on the board
One piece is all it will hold
Opposed by white sides times four
At corners, colors are told

The two black Bishops align
Each has a color they sing
Her Bishop’s angles designed
White to the right of the King

And as the game starts to turn
Diagonal strikes take a toll
Defenders easily learn
Advantage does come and go

Trying to decide if this is too complicated, or not complicated enough!. I'm a terrible chess player--I've been beaten with variations on fool's mate on more than a few occasions--but the board is not clear to me here, and its unclarity seems to seep into the poem, clouds the metaphor and makes it too unclear!. Keep working on this piece though, it definitely has interest!.!.!.!.!.

Poetic suggestion: You've seemed to switch the rhyme scheme from ABCB to ABAB in the last stanza, but I think the near-rhyme of toll and go is not enough, I think you need to go for a more perfect rhyme!. Perhaps this:

And as the game starts to turn
Diagonal strikes easily show
And make the defender learn
Advantage does come and goWww@QuestionHome@Com
