Position:Home>Poetry> Grandma...A poem?

Question: Grandma!.!.!.A poem!?
A little about Grandma!.!.!.

Grandma was a teacher
Of history and english!.
She was also a student
Of life and all it's hardships!.

Through the Great Depression,
And through World War ll
She taught and raised her children
With a strong and steady hand

Grandma was an athlete
She was over six feet tall
Swimming, bowling, basketball
State champion at Ping-Pong!

I love my Grandma dearly,
She nurtured me as well,
Grandma is still with us,
Sadly her faculties are not!.

Grandma is 91 years old and happily living in Naples!.
I'm going to work more on this, I just wanted to throw it out there!
Suggestions welcome and appreciated!Www@QuestionHome@Com

More like statements than poetry now!. She sounds like a wonderful person!. Why don't you take a more personal approach!. This would be my view with the info you gave:

What say thee, this figure larger than life
who in waning years still teaches life
She lived strong, was strong, and now!.!.!.
sadly remembers not!.

We could cry, resign ourselves, prepare!.!.!.
but memories honor this figure here
She lives, knows not where, but we do
She is granny, mom, and great gram too!.

In life, a teacher, a student, a lover all
a bowler, a swimmer, even a b baller
Heck, she even was state champ!.!.!.!.
with the little white ball and paddle!.

These though meant nothing to her
family dear was always her call
How warm the memories still there
All now!.!.!. I can say, is, I love you Gram

This is a way of taking the life of your Grandma, and making it personal but also a reflection of the woman!. Obvious your love and compassion will guide you in penning in your own words!. I just did two for my Dad that recently passed away!. They were cathartic and more importantly, a way of honoring him and putting something down on paper that future generations could view!. I look forward to reading your final!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

This is an okay poem, but as you say it is a work in progress!.

It lacks the intimacy and humour of the 'pea' saga -and I think this is because your strength lies in speech!.

Re-jig it with dialogue and I think it will workWww@QuestionHome@Com
