Question: Poetry help! Can you help me figure out the tone/mood of this poem!?
Tone- the attitude that the writer takes toward the audience, the subject, or the character!.
Mood- a feeling that a literary work conveys to its readers!.
(definitions our teacher gave us)

Ok, so here's the poem:

Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening

Whose woods these are I think I know!.
His house is in the village, though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow!.
My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year!.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake!.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake!.
The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep!.

By Robert Frost

P!.S!. when he says 'queer' he means strange!.
Thanks to all who help!! :)Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
we had to recite this poem!.
i THINK, so do not bet your grade on me, lol,
the tone toward the subject is admiration, admiration toward the beauty and simplicity of the woods and nature!.
the mood is calm and reflective!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

There is ambiguity, but the tone is contemplating!.

The mood is peaceful, severe, longing for peace!.

Getting help on that difficult poem is extremely not going to help you learn anything!.!.you should rather focus on trying to figure it out yourself!. God forbid you an Ib student -_-

and to the person above, the poem is about a middle aged man contemplating suicide and the realizing he has too much to live for!. Everything in the poem is symbolic, he isn't admiring nature!. He is looking at someone else's situation, for a second thinking about suicide, and then going back to reality with a shock of possibly being remind he has something to love for!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

He is tired but, appreciative of the beauty he sees!. He knows he has responsibilities but, there is no harm in stopping to take in a bit of beauty!. The mood is SOMBER!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

the mood is dark and peacefulWww@QuestionHome@Com
