Only if each sound carries the same beat!. Take Blowing in the Wind!. When you say it blowing is two beats but when it is sung, it probably is stretched to double!. Elton John had his collaborator pen the words first and then he would sit at the piano and compose!. Others develop a riff and then start to put words to it!. To me the classic poem put to music is American Pie!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I don't know the answer!.

But, I do know that to me Paul Simon is a great poet - I love his music, but I actually listen to the words in his songs, which I rarely do with most other performers!. And I am often puzzled!.
One of the things I suspect he does, which may seem a little odd - is to use words for the sounds they make, in combination, without concentrating too much on their meaning!.
If you think of nursery rhymes - children don't always know the meaning but the sounds and the rhythms are comforting!.
Native people often chant nonsensical sounds in a rhythmical way to produce an atmosphere!.
I wonder if he is doing the same!?

I'm going to have to go with Alobar on this one!. Rhyme is the harmony, for in music, occasionally the harmony hits the same notes as the melody, that's where the rhyme comes in poetry!. For a fleeting moment, two voices combine into one, the message is gathered, then they lead their separate ways to once again combine and impart another slice of wisdom!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
