Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
well, it usually helps to think about something you really love!. but consider these elements to a good poem:
Word Choice
Flow
Tone
Imagery(good showing descriptions, like instead of "he looked angry" say "his neck turning purple, eyes burning with rage"
emotion
themes
originality
and there are lots of others but this is a good start!. also, you can write a poem:
from the point of view of an animal/inanimate object
rearranging the words of your favorite song (be sure to explain this first)
made up of excuses
about a teacher who was unforgettable
without any punctuation
made up of questions
these are all things to get you started on brainstorming!.

The blaring hymn wafting down the packed corridor,
imperceptible but to the room in which it dwells,
the entrance laced with a curtain of sheer white threads,
the silent notes echoing their persistent rhythm,
soft as a red cherry soft, some, others trilling the raven's cry,
they keys pressing down like mutilated flowers in the tanned,
withered parchment of the 1st volume,
sewing a black thread, a reminiscience of the crow's tunes,
the blanket, abundant in its 100-count cotton strings,
for when the red cherries are just ripe,
and the ravens crawl out of their abodes in the night,
the music halts its eternal rhythm,
and the relentless fabric bows its head in mourning, as its onyx fibers evelope the invisible room #307,
and it's dissolved into ebon embers, camouflaged forevermore,
the keys resume their silent notes,
as the blaring hymn wafting down the packed corridor, is imperceptible but to the room in which it dwellsWww@QuestionHome@Com
