Question: Is this a poem or a song!?
I have been told that poetic meter is MELODY, so I've tried to write a modern version of a song whose tune first appeared in 1652!. The composer is unknown!.

Oh wow you nerd, you left me here
To face this awful class alone
The teacher's walking, coming near,
I don't have time to hide my phone!.

Chorus:
Hey, nerd, don't email or text,
I hope that you I'll never see
Cause I'm sure that what is next
Is now I'm flunking Poetry!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It sounds very Greensleeves to me!.!.!.am I right!?

Alas, my love, you do me wrong,
To cast me off discourteously!.
For I have loved you well and long,
Delighting in your company!.

Chorus:
Greensleeves was all my joy
Greensleeves was my delight,
Greensleeves was my heart of gold,
And who but my lady greensleeves!.

Well, that's the tune I've been singing your song to, anyway!.

Either or - this is very funny - lol!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

A lot of hymns were 8 beats followed by 6 beats if memory serves me!. This is 8 beats per line!. A folk song would be a choice!. GrannyJill may be right!. O Tannebaum O Tannebaum would certainly fit for at least the first line!. That is my guess!. I need to rest my mind now, too much convoluted thoughts!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

A pretty funny song!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

My sleeves are green with envy!. The original has been attributed to Henry ("Two Door") V-8!. He wrote it when he took Anne bowlin'!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
