In the Fall of '92

the most beautiful
love affair i ever saw
the perfect modern tragedy
took place in San Francisco that fall
playing tag in the park
midnight and Van Morrison and you and i
on the jungle gym
we walked all night
up and down streets so steep
there were stairs in the sidewalk
we stopped
and looked out over the bay
i took off your shoes in a symbolic gesture
and rubbed your feet
and on the train ride home
you slept with me
just like the third grade

Sitting here thinking of you, things begin to flow, part of me yelling no, while the rest moves towards yes. Hearing your voice at the door the body has made its choice.
