Position:Home>Poetry> Anyone know any POPULAR songs or poems on conscription in Vietnam??

Question:I have to write an analytical essay on a song or poem that had to do with conscription in Vietnam from an Australian point of view. It has to be popular however, so my teacher knows about it. It would also be handy if the poem or song had a lot of techniques used in it so i could write about it. Thanks so much. 10 points for best answer.

A letter was written by Wayne Dabinet to the CPV (Campaign for Peace in Vietnam) and included Wayne Dabinet's poem 'Why?' written in protest of the war in Vietnam. If your teacher does not know this one shame on him/her.

Why

In a muddy paddy field
Broken bodies, mainly children,
Their blood
Staining the died for mud.
But why should they die for it?
It was theirs to begin with,
Until we came
With our 'choppers and mortars,
our bombs and rockets,
To shelter this once beautiful land
With our umbrella of war.
But we are heros,
Protecting these people against...
What?
Don't think about it, on the job,
Kill, maim, burn, destroy,
O my God!
The children.

hahaha. i do know a song by rage against the machine. "vietnow"

From an Australian POV??? I guess that takes Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Fortunate Son" off the table. It doesn't get more popular than that.
