writing is constructive and rewarding...reading is just reading..some poems are very good..some are deep and confusing...but yours are good

It seems to be that way. I wish I had more time for reading and that includes poetry. Between work and school, add in family and my musical interests (play piano), there is little time left. I don't watch much tv as most of it is garbage. My stepkids hate reading. I used to love to read as a child. I try to get them to try different books but they can't be bothered to even make an effort. They are too lazy. It has to be easy.

Poetry and writing are a bit of a decadent pastime. The average person spends most of the day at work then comes home to their household responsibilities. Additionally not everybody comes to appreciate poetry. It's considered an intellectual thing and the average person isn't an intellectual so when they're forming their personalities in highschool etc... it isn't always a wise social move to be interested in poetry and even though everybody eventually leaves that environment they don't necessarily pick up poetry once there is no longer a social consequence. So to say all that again, it's a cultural thing.

do we write to be read? I believe that most people write because peoples favorite subject ihappens bo be their own lives or their own thoughts and experience. Those whe read are interested in others and strive to enhance their own experience. We are egocentric and our need to communicate is enormous.

Poetry is possibly a disease at this point. No one wants it. but some of us have it anyway and actually nurture it. It is insane like harboring a mad dog .
