Mary's Lamb

Mary, had a little Lamb,
His fleece was white as snow.
And everywhere that Mary went,
The Lamb was sure to go.

He followed her to school each day,
T'wasn't even in the rule.
It made the children laugh and play,
To have The Lamb at school..

And then the rules all changed one day,
Illegal it became;
To bring The Lamb of God to school,
Or even speak His Name!

Every day got worse and worse,
And days turned into years.
Instead of hearing children laugh,
We heard gun shots and tears.

What must we do to stop the crime,
That's in our schools today?
Let's let The Lamb come back to school,
And teach our kids to pray!

Have a blessed evening :-)

like it
bless you :)

loved it. And I agree 110 percent,

= ) That's nice. Meaningful. Easy to read. Who did write it, by the way?

What about the Buddhist children? What about the Muslim children? Should they be forced to enjoy the company of the Lamb?

Ideologically, I am against this poem. Number one, to imply that school violence shares such a correlation to lack of a religious presence in schools is ludicrous. The Amish Schoolhouse shooter was devoutly Christian. There are many other examples of Christian and other religious men and women lashing out. My point is, religious affiliation does not preclude violence.

The second problem I have with this poem is that it's so exclusive. Only the Lamb of God should be worshiped in schools?

The third problem I have is that American families already have the option of sending their kids to religious schools. So the call for a change in the poem is null.

Finally, as an ardent reader of poems I have to say that this particular one lacks substance and poetic ingenuity. I will concede that it could have a genuine appeal to Christians as a piece of colloquial religious writing...something lighthearted and mildly significant for the exclusive group. However, it is certainly no poetic classic that speaks to some basic human condition.
