An ideal can continue as long is there is someone, somewhere, who carries it into the future- or as long as someone in the future can pick it up from history or come up with it again, and bring it back into use!.

Protecting American lives does not necessarily protect the ideal, because ideals are not upheld by the individuals, but exist independent of those who believe and those who do not!. The ideal exists, even if lost at a point of time, in histories and in the fact that it did exist in the past!.

This is why fighting to win a war against an ideal is an impossible task- no matter how many of its supporters are killed, the ideal exists within itself- an idea cannot be killed as could a life form!.

There is no point in deciding which is worth more- an ideal is not dependent on the people, but the people can be dependent on the ideal, if that answers the question- the lives are transient, while the ideal will live on!. If this is a "which would you save" sort of question, I would save the lives- because the ideal can't be killed, but in answering the question itself, the ideal is more important because it is dependent on nothing!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The idea is more important than the life, the idea gives life meaning and a want to make things better, causing us to break away from england, abolish slavery, equal rights for women and minorities, and voting a black man into presidency, what will tomorrow bring!? Americans have given there all for their ideals through wars and interactions of dictators and bringing peace and hope around the world!. We have been there with food and medical supplies!. We have been there with force to stop oppression for the people!. I know some don't understand this but look at it with a side glance!. They have no answers to what to do other then what is happening and continue to allow it to happen, while others will take up the flag and die for their ideals!. I did this in '66 for two years in 'Nam fighting for what I thought was my ideals, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

No one agrees what the american ideal is but if you are living in america that is plain enough!. If you cannot define this ideal, then it is worthless!.
If you can define it, then its worth is your personal choice!. There is no stock market that sets value to American ideals!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
