I think what you are asking is if man is inherently good or evil!. This has been debated for years!. I personally belive that man is inherently evil but can learn to be good!. Look at babies, when they are born they are selfish and have to be taught to share, they are violent and have to be taught not to hurt others, they have to be taught that the world doesn't revolve around man!. To sum it up = man in its natural state is evil and selfish but they can be taught to be good!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

There are too many aspects to humanity for Your essay to include them all!. Concentrate instead on that overwhelming 'quality', man's curiosity!
The need to search out answers,to question everything, to seek out new places, find easier ways of achieving his ends!. It is that single trait that has led man to where he is, for better or worse!. The ratio of needs met to needs frustrated will influence whether a person is able to delay gratification!. Alternately, Alfred Adler said it was the "will to power" that drove man, and he was concerned with, among other things, issues of equality and inferiority!. However, to Viktor Frankl it was the "will to meaning!." Frankl was interested in how people make sense of life circumstances, particularly how they create meaning or despair out of adversity!. I think they all apply to human nature, but the "will to meaning" is where the real excitement is, in my opinion ;) People are driven toward power and pleasure because this is where they derive some meaning or invest their identity!.
