No I don't think they are the same!. Christ was not a religious fanatic, but he was a martyr - I might put Socrates in the same slot too!.

You could be a religious fanatic, but follow a religion where martyrdom was considered sinful!. Then, the more fanatical you became, the less likely you would be to become a martyr!.

So they are two different things, albeit they do get related every now and then - and watching the news these days of course, it becomes easy to make a connection between them!. But the connection is incidental rather than necessary in my view!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I don't think they're the same thing!. Most religious fanatics (in the US) don't really want to die for their cause!. They just want to make everyone else around them want to die!. That's why we leave them to play with themselves in places like Kansas and Mississippi!.

But yes, they are absurd!. If you live around them, it's best to relocate to a better place, so that at least your local tax dollars will be put to better use, helping a part of society that isn't as ridiculous!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Being a martyr means to die for your beliefs!. Most of the apostles were killed for theirs, so they are martyrs!. Fanaticism means to be unwilling to see another viewpoint besides your own!. Neither specifies you have to kill others!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Fanaticism is another way of saying extremism!. Martyrdom however is a general concept and can be taken much further than just saying "I give myself to you [enter name of worship here]!"Www@QuestionHome@Com
