Because everything we think exists has mass!. That's what prevents something from accelerating!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

turns out that if you split the two particles inside a proton and send them through a prism along different lengths of optic fiber, one short and one long, as soon as you see that the short one has arrived, you can observe the one on the longer path also at the end of its route!. Which means that the speed of light doesn't remain constant when you split these things!. Now we just need to figure out how to hitch a ride, and we have warp speed!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Picture an egg sorting machine!. Small eggs fall through the small holes and large eggs roll down until they find their slot!. Mass and speed have a similar relationship; the heavier something is, the slower is the upper limit of how fast it can go, ever!. Light, being the biggest "goose egg" (zero or almost zero mass,) it can travel the fastest!. If they ever discover something with "negative mass" it may be able to out run the goose!.

Anything which has mass will become more massive as it goes faster!. To go faster than c, the speed of light, it would need to have infinite weight!.

Tachyons, which are posited (not seen or measured), are a weightless particle which ONLY travels faster than c!.
