Question: Is this why most of the world looks at the USA as a joke!?
This news about the crowd at wal-mart trampling some poor worker during the "early morning sale" has really disturbed me!. Is this what we are now!? People demanded to keep shopping after he was killed!? Is this the impression we want to give the world!? I love the USA, but are these things damaging how we are perceived on the world stage!?

1) This wal-mart incident!. Shoppers trampling a worker in order to get low prices on luxury goods to be given as given as gifts to "loved ones"

2) Shows like "the biggest loser"!. In the face of food shortages around the planet!.!. as well as other game show type reality programs like deal or no deal, the bachelor, (greed, treating marriage as disposable)

3) The fact our government has not reflected public opinion or general society for at least 100 years!?

agree/disagree!? Www@QuestionHome@Com

The Wall-mart incident is indeed a glaring example of how the USA has forsaken its own stated values for the sake of money and personal gratification!. I believe that the capitalist glorification of fair competition and free market has meant demise of humanity, because it kills the weaker one in order to reward the stronger one!. The USA has gone overboard in pursuit of efficiency (capitalism) thereby getting thinner by the day on virtues (humanity)!.!.!.!.!.!.!. and the whole world is trying to follow suit!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Agree!. On the other hand, it's not necessarily all our fault!.

In western Europe, ideas of what a family should be, what a government should be, the place of religion in society, and so forth have changed radically over the past half-century or so!. In America, most ordinary people's views on these subjects remain fairly traditional!.

I think other countries despise our hypocritical failure to live up to our stated values, but also envy the fact that we have "stated values!." Our moral certainty makes our evils all the more glaring!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

i don't think the wall mart incident is THE reason that world thinks the us is a joke i think it's because things like this keep happening!.

--> Agree though!. I mean look at the president (not president elect); do i need to give you an example!.

I agree that the media and television have become some what of a joke these days - reality tv is on nearly every night; and i mean i don't really care what a bunch of people put in different situations will do or how they will react!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It was not an ISOLATED INCIDENT!.!.!. there are countless times, in the U!.S!. Casinos when someone has a heart attack, and people steal their bucket of quarters or step over their still-warm and kicking body to play off the credits on their machine!.

AmeriKans are just crass, self centered people who don't care about anyone else!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

No, the world does not look at the US as a joke for one mere incident!. Rather, it is looked at as a joke for (if we assume Democracy truly occurred) selecting a noob that couldn't even construct a proper sentence twice!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

I would not say the United States, but the world in general!. This is how mankind is, regardless of what nation we live in!. Nevertheless, in all the chaos, and stupidity, there are always people who try to make things better!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I didn't realize the world looked at the USA as a joke!. I really don't think that's the case!. But the USA does have its share of loonies--as does the rest of the world!. Greed, like other vices, is not easily dismissed!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Maybe I'm an ugly American but back when America was the envy of the world (pre 1960s) we didn't care what the world thought!. The fact that we do now is evidence of our decline!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

now!? people have been trampled at stores for decadesWww@QuestionHome@Com

i bet it has to do with McDonald's and sarah palin!.
ditch those 2 and your country's fine!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Man, talk about stereotyping!. There are @ 300,000,000 people in the US today!. Maybe people who don't get out much think all French are rude, or all Germans drunks, or the English are boring, but it isn't so!. People are people!. I've been to a good many places on the globe and I find we all have one thing in common: We are all members of the human race!. I think the majority of people blessed with only a little bit of common sense realize that every society has different people with different values, ideas and morals!. I've noticed that slowly but surely, negative comments are rightly steered more towards a country's government as opposed to their people, or a company's policies are criticized instead of the workers, etc!. I think intelligent people know that in freewill societies, people exhibit a wide range of different behaviors!. As an American, it angers me to hear that people at that Walmart can act so weird in the trampling situation!. I doubt the number of people involved equals less than !.0001 pct of that stores local community's population!. also, as an event-oriented gathering, like-minded people were concentrated in one place, which statistically skews the percantage data as well!.
Bottom line, most people don't judge an entire country based on a single incident with a comparatively insignificant percentage of a hugely populated country like the US!. 'course those that "want" to find reasons to hate or dislike will certainly find no shortage of opportunities!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

totally agree!. people suck these days!.

I think it's time we all wake up and treat one another with respect and kindness!. But it starts with OUR OWN SELVES!. here we sit pointing fingers, but its starts with us!. Goodness is contagious!. My new years resolution is to do at least three acts of kindness DAILY, no matter what!.
if we all did this, and took care not to hurt others (even unintentionally - I do not think those shoppers meant to kill that poor man---they just lack COMMON COURTESY)!.

TV shows and the media don't help either!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
