>Do you think religion would be extinct in 150 years!?

Yes!. I expect religion to vanish around the same time that we reach a posthuman stage of development, which I think will happen between about 20 and 100 years from now!.

>and what is the point of religion, 1000 years ago!?

To keep people working together in functioning societies, rather than constantly expending their effort fighting each other!.

>now!?

To satisfy a naturally evolved desire for comfort, which unfortunately for many people is stronger than their ability to think rationally!.

>1000 years later (if it still exists)!?

Same as now!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

religion is a myth by which people explain an unknown universe!. It is based on observation of the stars and the synchronicity of the planets and events on earth!. Astrology was the first religion!. the stories and names of the planets were the first ideas of the gods and their stories!. It is embedded in the DNA of humans to seek an explanation for existence!. There will always be this type of effort!. Hopefully, the religious differences will disappear and people will have a more educated view of life!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I don't think religions will disappear soon!. "God is to science a cause, to philosophy an idea, to religion a person, even the loving heavenly Father!. God is to the scientist a primal force, to the philosopher a hypothesis of unity, to the religionist a living spiritual experience!. Man's inadequate concept of the personality of the Universal Father can be improved only by man's spiritual progress in the universe and will become truly adequate only when the pilgrims of time and space finally attain the divine embrace of the living God on Paradise!.

Personality!. The personality of mortal man is neither body, mind, nor spirit; neither is it the soul!. Personality is the one changeless reality in an otherwise ever-changing creature experience; and it unifies all other associated factors of individuality!. The personality is the unique bestowal which the Universal Father makes upon the living and associated energies of matter, mind, and spirit, and which survives with the survival of the morontial soul!.

It is because we are personal that we can know and be known and this is why we will always have a personal religion!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

There are many compelling reasons for religion!. It promises eternal life as opposed to a brief, insignificant existence!. It offers reward and meaning to all the suffering that exists!. These powerful incentives cause some people to believe the illogical and irrational claims of religion!.

Religion has declined due to people becoming more educated and open minded!. However, considering the fervency of the religious zealots that are still around (see last presidential election, and recent terror attacks in India) I don't see religion going away for a long time!.!.

I believe the ORGANIZED religions will be extinct in about 50 years, and that's a very high estimate!.

I believe Eastern philosophies will become more prevelant than they are now!.

Why!?

Organized religions are hypocrites; remember all the controversies such as a priest was outed as a gay, tammy baker and her husband, all the one's on tv programs with the only motive of collecting money, violeance (how many times, since their inception, have Christians, Muslims, and Jews have fought violent bloody wars!? How long has the Middle East problem existed, etc!.)

Easter philosophies, the main tenets are always: love, love for yourself and others!. By doing well yourself, in your community, you will be helping all human beings who are held in the highest esteem!. These philosophies are not "money collection" machines of the three monotheistic religions!. Many times, I have been comforted by applying this simple phrase:

PUT the PAST down (it's past; nothing can be done, so don't worry)

LIVE in the MOMENT & NOW

PUT the FUTURE down (it has not occured yet, so why worry about what the future brings!.

By living in the moment, one's mind becomes clear, allowing one to think clearly--without the baggage of past and baggage of future--this CLEAR MIND allows one to have different perspectives unlike when the mind was polluted by pas and future, and never though of NOW/THIS MOMENT!.

I dislike violance; especially the kinds perpetuated throughout history up to present; they are bloody, horrific, against the tenets of the respective religions!.

Eastern philosophy LACKS VIOLENCE!. It seek to clear mind, knowing oneself truly and wholly, helping others, which will result in benefits for all human beings!.

Can you just imagine that!? The ultimate goal of Eastern philosophies are to live in a way that benefits ALL HUMAN BEINGS!.

Imagine!

I believe that religion will always exist in one form or another!. This is because humanity likes to worship the unknown!. This type of worship lends closure and answers to tough questions with unknowable answers!. 1000 years ago, the mechanics of the universe (physics) were not well known, so religion helped provide answers to question that at the time were unknowable!. (i!.e!. why did a volcano destroy the countryside!? Ans!. Because God(s) wished it so in their mysterious but wise ways) With the advent of the scientific revolution, religion no longer can answer questions about the natural world to the satsifaction of the populace which has been exposed to good science!.
However, questions such as what is right or wrong or what happens after death have not been nor, at the moment, can be resolved at satisfactorily at this time, and I doubt they ever will be!. Therefore, religion will always exist so that people can provide themselves with answers they don't have to questions that haunt them!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

i think the point of religion is to connect with a creator/controller/God/w!.h!.y!. if you so believe one exists!. if it has truth to it, it should still be relevant at any time because this omnipotent being transcends time!. and as for religious individuals, i'd say people today have more individualistic, self-serving religions, such as the worshiping of excess and materialism (esp!. N!. Americans)!. same deal, different "God"!. so no, for me, religion is necessary for everyone in some formWww@QuestionHome@Com

In every country in the world except Germany people who espouse a religion are 95% of the population!. In East German, under the communists, it was attempted to eradicate religion completely!. Residents of the eastern half of Germany only claim a religion 65% of the time, but this throws the country as a whole quite a bit under 95%!.

So if you spend 70 years eradicating coca cola, and 65% of the population still wanted one, I'd say coke was doing just fine!.

The same for religion!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I really do hope that there will come a day that mankind will have no use of religion, but i highly doubt that that time will come!.

There are billions of people living in this world today, and 150 years from now, there will be more!.!.!.in 1000 years there will be more than we can measure!. So we will have a countless amount of individuals who think, who have their own opinions, who see the world in their own way, who are human!. And a number of them will always have a religion or a belief system!.

They may be a minority in the future, but religion will survive as long as people still have their freedom to think!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

People up there! YOU CANNOT BLAME VIOLENCE ON RELIGION!. Pol-Pot was an Atheist, killed thousands!. So is the "Chinese Government" Who slaughters The Felon Gong by the hundreds!.
Violence is an innate part of human nature, For we as humans have two things animals do not!. Reason, and the will to power!.
Oh and by the way, Catholicism has survived for a long time, sometimes under most!.!.!.!.undesirable circumstances!. No, it will not be, so long as there is some unknown, some form of religion shall exist!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Flesh man will be extinct (non-existent in the flesh) in less than 150!.years!.And,no I'm not talking about the world ending, but this "age of the flesh" will end!.And if you still don't know what I'm talking about I'd suggest you study the Bible and educate yourself about where mankind is heading!.A word to the wise is sufficient!.There is a birth of a new age fast approaching, and the labour pains grow closer and closer together!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I can give a levelheaded answer
but not believing in god I cant be unbiased
and i doubt many others can
as mans knowledge of the universe and everything in it expands more and more evidence will pile up against gods and heavens and hells
shouldnt the question be will man and his technologies send humans or maybe even the planet into extinction!?
Www@QuestionHome@Com

No!. All other faiths could pass away, but the main ones will remain!. They don't view history in terms of years, but terms of centuries and millenniums!. They know that the needs of man will one revert and come searching for them for answers because they are a lazy lot!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

hopefully!.

1000 years ago they survived by being in tune with the planet!.!.!. now!? well, we are all deaf to the soft pleas our earth utters in protest almost!.

we'll learn, eventually, all over again, 'the point'!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Religion is a means of explaining the unexplainable!. So as long as there are unanswered questions there will be religion!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Spirituality will be around, but I hope organised religion based around a book of allegorical stories will not be!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
