The KEY here is "in his heart", meaning that the thought (s), have become a part of the person!.
Many thoughts come into the mind, but, if they don't line up with the Word of God, we need always to repel them!.!.!.

To have a positive mental attitude towards life a person has to think with a positive attitude, but just saying you are what you think you are does not change you overnight!. If you want to be positive you have to fight against negative thoughts and do your best to forgive others for there sins and accusations!.
I like to say that everyone can change, but it takes GOD in most cases to change a person from being selfish and self centered into someone that can give to others!. Sometimes it hurts to give, (especially when you see no appreciation from the receiver) but it is still better to be on the giving end and GOD will provide if you are giving to others!.
Yes, we are what we think we are if we are honest with ourselves and look in the mirror of life to continually better ourselves, but changing from bad habits and ways takes more than just saying I have changed because you have to fight to make a difference and there will always be others that want to bring you back to what you were or down to their level!.

A better answer is "we are what we INTEND ourselves to be!." The term "think" implies a kind of reflective awareness!. While it is true, we may believe ourselves to be this or that, sometimes that belief is born out of pre-reflective belief!.!.!. that is, you may not be consciously aware of these beliefs!.

This is because that when we consider ourselves, we are actually *imagining* ourselves!. We cannot really perceive the totality of "me," so we conjure an imaginary representation of our "self" that we then have a tendency to believe is not imaginary at all, but "real!." Imaginary objects appear to us (in our imaginations) based largely on what we intend them to be, what we *expect* them to be!. The imaginary cat that I see in my mind's eye is different from the cat that you see, because I have different intentions toward the generic idea of a "cat!."

But our idea of our "self" is also imaginary!. Therefore, we are what we expect ourselves to be, based on past experience, recent knowledge, and our intention toward ourselves!. I may tell myself I am a good dancer but a terrible conversationalist!.!.!. and I may have evidence in the past to corrorborate these beliefs!. But when I look to myself, it is my intentions toward myself that help construct this self in the first place!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You Are What You Think

You are responsible for your thinking!. Change your thinking and life will get better!. But, what thoughts do you change!? Your troublesome thoughts about a situation can easily be found in your self-talk!. Self-talk is that inner running dialogue you have with yourself!. It is what you tell yourself about life's situations!.

All of us have a voice that talks to us!. You might think of it as your conscience!. It might be that "inner observer" who seems to sits in the corner and watches everything you do!. You may recognize it as that voice that starts talking to you upon awakening in the morning!. Sometimes it may wait until you look in the mirror before it actually speaks!. It is that voice that says, "You sure are handsome!." or "What a wonderful person you are!." Or "You are going to have a great day!." It might say, "You are so slim and your hair looks beautiful!." If you don’t' recognize this voice then yours may be speaking to you in a different tone!. You might be hearing, "You look like crap today" or "You sure have gained a lot of weight!." "Your hair is a mess!." "It's is a terrible day! Get back in bed!." This voice, the negative, critical one, is one of the main reasons we have so many problems!. It can destroy resiliency by opening the flood gates and draining away your energy!.

This voice can make anything worse!. You may be like most people and know how to take any small problem, think about it for awhile, and have a bigger problem!. That little voice keeps telling you what might go wrong!. All of the dark possibilities are pointed out!. The imagination creates a very bad situation!. The problem goes from a mild annoyance to a major catastrophe as you convince yourself that the imagined situation is the real situation!. You are now busy confronting a problem that only exists in your mind!.

Which came first!? Your habits, or your belief that those habits are just part of who you are!? Does it really matter which came first!? The fact is that habits are…well…habitual!

Coaches often talk about the Gremlin!. He is the narrator in your head!. He tells you who you are, and he defines and interprets your every experience!. He wants you to feel bad, and he pursues this loathsome task by means of sophisticated maneuvers: just when you feel you've out-argued or overcome him, he changes his disguise and his strategy!. He's the sticky sort -- grapple with him and you become more enmeshed!. What he hates is simply being noticed!. That's the first step to his taming!.

One way to change what the Gremlin has to say (beliefs you hold about yourself) is by changing your habits!. Do you have a habit that confirms a belief about yourself!? Is that habit serving you well -- or is it confirming a belief about yourself that you wish was different!?

Actions speak louder than words!. By choosing and committing to a new habit, you will eventually change your belief about yourself as you create proof based on your actions!. That belief will make it easier for your new habit to become a permanent habit!. The new habit will be who you are rather than whom you aspire to be!.
