Question: Since we all seek escapism in one form or another, does that mean reality is flawed!?

We might not seek it all the time or in the same form, but the fact we need it makes me believe something is wrong!.

I think that reality is not flawed, but our sense of time is, so we see everything skewed by that false perception!. We want to escape because life is an endless series of repetitions, everything from brushing your teeth to eating and eliminating!.!.!.over and over and over again!. Psychology claims that one of the basic human needs is variety, and it does seem that way!. Escaping from the humdrum repetition is why we have everything from music and hopscotch to Harlequin romance novels and movies!. It's why we hike in the mountains and jump out of airplanes!.

At a cellular and even a molecular level the repetition is even more pronounced!. Repetition is truly endless, and even our DNA is just the same thing repeated ad nauseam!. I think time doesn't exist at all, that it's an illusion designed specifically for us for a specific purpose, and that's why we see so much repetition and why we struggle to escape from it!. And lots of us struggle too hard, dying for a momentary thrill!.

In that sense reality is flawed, because what we see with our perception of linear time is not in fact reality!. However since it is our subjective reality we have to live with it whether we want to or not!.

And I totally agree with you, we all have a desire to hide something!. Whether that be hiding it from others or purely hiding it from ourselves and this most defiantly does alter our perception of reality!.
However, what actually is reality, who determines what it is!?
It is easy enough to say that our reality is in fact the only reality, however, in truth everyone has their own perception of reality that is formed by their past experiences and memories of various events!.
So you could say we all retreat into our own reality when things get hard, however, we are in fact already living in this reality that is entirely our own!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I wouldn't say that reality on a general level is flawed!. I think our personal reality has flaws!. Because we are a world of expectations, and we don't always get what we want, we find a problems!. There are days when we are elated that everything has gone great!. Then we have days when nothing seems to be going right!. We cannot possibly think that we shouldn't escape once in awhile!.

Another way of looking at escapism, is that we just need to take time out for ourselves to regroup our thoughts and goal!. The proverbial "man box" is a common term these days!. Now we have to be equal and mention our proverbial "woman box" too!.

Reality isn't flawed!. Reality is reality -- it's perfect, regardless of how much it is enjoyed or how much it sucks !.

We seek escape through escapism because, as Freud put it, everybody is living a life of quiet desperation!. I think it's because, for most people, so much compromise and sacrifice needs to be made in order to carve out a little happiness in their life!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I do not agree that reality is flawed because people seek escapism!. The human psyche is what it is!. Escapism is built into us!. It's just the way we're made!. Nothing wrong with it; and it doesn't mean there's any kind of flaw!. It's just one of the checks and balances we're built with!. It's so we won't go on overload mentally/emotionally!. I do not need to escape from reality because I have a positive outlook on life and a total faith in God to help me live a good life!.

Sometimes for the moment!.

More often we escape from the things that really scare us that live within our minds!. Our emotions, thoughts and feelings are the toughest to deal with!. Funny enough, they all life within our heads!.

What is wrong is the thought process!. One must find the joy in their own lives!. Family, children!. pets, contributions to society, contributions to self growth; what ever!.
