Question: Pleasantville & Across the Universe!?
Across the Universe is played at the end of the movie Pleasantville and I just wondered if any one knew (or dares to take a stab at) why it was used!? i am having a difficult time trying to tie it in with the theme of the movie!. Especially with the lines "Jai guru deva om" and "Nothing's gonna change my world"!. The first line means something like "Praise to the teacher" which i do not see where this fits!. also, the way i see it, Pleasantville is showing how change is good and must be learned to be accepted - so why the "Nothings gonna change my world"!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

"Pleasantville" is my favorite movie of all time, quite seriously!. I agree somewhat with the first respondant - nothing is going to change your world, only -you- can change your world!. The events that transformed the citizens of Pleasantville came about because they found something within themselves - "it's inside you, and you can't stop what's inside you" as 'Bud' says near the end!.

As for the "Praise to the teacher" bit, it probably depends on who you see as the teacher!. Was it 'Bud' for introducing literature and the like to the townspeople!? Or perhaps his sister, who didn't care what tradition dictated and followed her natural instincts!? For me, I think the teacher would have been the "TV Repairman"!. His anger when talking to Bud through the TV as things were going all haywire in Pleasantville - that's exactly how the most profound of teachers would motivate such a change, by seeming to be against it and making it seem like a challenge!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
