It would certainly seem so in most cases!. However, in some instances emotion surpasses even logic in its seemly intelligent design!.

For instance, a young man or woman who has little opportunity for furthering their education, or viable employment opportunities decides to join the military!. Their spouse and or children, implore them not to join!. Should they then not join and an unforeseen opportunity becomes available, they have made a more intelligent choice by virtue of their emotion, or love for their family!.

Now if that same individual does join, and finds themselves in a combat situation, where one of their fellow soldiers is in a dire need of salvation (fallen in the midst of enemy fire, let's say for instance) and the said individual makes an attempt to save their fallen comrade and succeeds, then again that decision may be based more on emotion than logic as well!.

This could be said for a great many other things, such as acting, or screen writing, or writing in general, or pursuing art as a viable career!.
In all those cases, logic and intelligence would dictate that the odds of success are clearly not in the writer's/actor's/artist's favor, but again the emotional component of love and desire may very well prove to lead them to the only "logical" choice!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It depends what the emotions are formed by ,if they are reactions to situations they may be intuative reasoning themselves , but just reacting to say seeing a sad film would not be intelligent!.
Many political decisions are made on pure emotion based on advertising campains!.
That certainly has no relevance to what the political group may really stand for, to see that you have to look at thier past history and decide on your own assesmnt of that history, so there emotions are not agood guide!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Emotion is a first response!. When I make decisions based on emotional response only, they tend to be disastrous!. Normally, when you think things through completely and rationalize what's going on and start to see the issue from various perspectives, you make better decisions!. It's easy to jump to conclusions!. It's harder to wrestle with yourself, calm down, and approach the situation from a more rational perspective!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I have a mental illness and can do both! Good for me! It doesn't affect my intellect whatsoever!. I really like that!. It means that I can have intelligent conversation with anyone and not sound like an idiot!.

Some emotion is needed to make a choice in order to rank values and how people feel about things and such!. A purely logical choice may not be the best choice to be made in reality!. A purely emotional choice can create a mess in reality!.

I dont condone blind selfishness!.!.!. but has it occurred to you that life isnt worth living if you dont appeal to your own needs, too!? To make emotionally based decisions it to make the decisions that make you happy!. I dont think that making emotional decisions, or emotionally based rhetoric, is fallacious!.!.!. because often times in life the decisions that matter are not necessarily the most logical, just the most considerate and intuitive and gratifying to life in general!.

Consider, also, how our decision making process evolved in the first place!. We are emotional and intuitive beings!. Deduction does not come naturally!. It comes from training in thought!. Logic is a man-made concept whose foundations are not tangible or self-proving!. Therefore, how did rational thought evolve!? I think that deduction stems from a formalization of intuition and induction!. It strikes me as odd that deduction is based entirely on our emotional response to the self-apparent conclusions that are reached from it!. How can an emotionally and intuitively based, trained, learned way of thinking be more restrictive and valid than its foundations!? An example of a chain being stronger than its weakest link!.

I would also like to ask what you think prejudices are!? To me, prejudices are the generalizations made when we see seemingly unrelated set of events, realize a pattern, and extrapolate a governing rule!. This is called induction to a logician, statistics to a statistician, a hypothesis to an empiricist, and ironically its also called prejudice to an unqualified layman!. And each reflect the same "intelligence capacity" of a human mind!. At what point does reasoning skills turn into an irrational prejudice!?

Then you also have to ask whether or not logic is valid whatsoever!. As already stated, its foundations make it questionable!. Lets talk about practice!. How many social issues do we still have, yet resolved, even though we hold logic dear and empiricism has given us such grand technologies!.!.!. deduction still falls short when it comes to human issues!. Does that prove deduction inadequate when it comes to complex human life!?

Quantum physics has proven to us that logic isnt universal!. The rules change depending on a perspective that is objective to the universe!. I dont think logic is subjective from a human perspective, but I do think its subjective depending on other universal qualities!. How can logic be subjective whatsoever!? Its seems to me that the distinction between Newtonian and quantum logics only prove that logic itself is wrong!.

I think that asking the question, "which is more intelligent!?" is an unfair, unrealistic question!. Its not a question of merely whether or not one does or doesnt make emotional decisions!.!.!. its a question of whether or not they are capable, all things being equal, to make a logical decision if no emotional inclination exists!. Furthermore, the question can be extended to whether or not they consciously realize their decision is an emotional bias or whether or not they fallaciously believe their decision is the most logical!. I think asking those two questions may be a better measure of intelligence!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

On an evolutionary scale, emotions precede reason!. the brain evolved so much later than emotions & instinct!. most animals rely on their instincts, hormones, pheromones & other sensory organs to make their fight or flight decisions, dietary choices, etc!. Our genetic make-up is still largely common to that of "lower" animals!. Hence an emotional response is usually the first & instinctive response of man & is in no way Less intelligent than reason which is a relatively "acquired" response!.
However, humans have unfortunately lost their ability to use ALL their sense organs optimally to gather information & hence the brain does not always get the complete/holistic picture!. this affects decision-making!. and it is here, that reason stands a better chance because it gives us time to think & visualize all possible courses of action!.!.!.!.!.

i would like to point out though that emotional responses are largely the same in individuals throughout the world, being hard-wired into us!. rational responses can be culture-/religion-/country-specific and differ among individuals!.

i personally tend to have an emotional first response/reaction but when i'm writing, my rational self takes over ;-))

If the emotion is coming from ego possibly less conscious in making choices!. Reason, if in the present moment is making a choice with all attention directed toward the choice rather than the emotion!. I cannot say that applies to me!. I am a member of MENSA but am an emotional man!. I get gooey eyed about small cute puppies but can rant and rave like Savanarola when I read and see injustice in the world!.

Animals are controlled by their emotions!. Emotions are just body fluids, hormones etc!. We choose whether or not to let them rule over us!. The less intelligent a person is the more likely they are to be emotional!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
