THE PHENOMENON OF DEATH

We generally recognize only one kind of death, the physical cessation of life energies; but concerning personality survival there are really three kinds:

1!. Spiritual (soul) death!. If and when mortal man has finally rejected survival, when he has been pronounced spiritually insolvent, morontially bankrupt, in the conjoint opinion of the Spirit and the surviving seraphim, when such co-ordinate advice has been recorded and after the Censors and their reflective associates have verified these findings, thereupon do the rulers order the immediate release of the indwelling Monitor!. But this release of the Spirits in no way affects the duties of the personal or group seraphim concerned with that Spirit-abandoned individual!. This kind of death is final in its significance irrespective of the temporary continuation of the living energies of the physical and mind mechanisms!. From the cosmic standpoint the mortal is already dead; the continuing life merely indicates the persistence of the material momentum of cosmic energies!.

2!. Intellectual (mind) death!. When the vital circuits of higher adjutant ministry are disrupted through the aberrations of intellect or because of the partial destruction of the mechanism of the brain, and if these conditions pass a certain critical point of irreparability, the indwelling Adjuster is immediately released to depart for Divinington!. On the universe records a mortal personality is considered to have met with death whenever the essential mind circuits of human will-action have been destroyed!. And again, this is death, irrespective of the continuing function of the living mechanism of the physical body!. The body minus the volitional mind is no longer human, but according to the prior choosing of the human will, the soul of such an individual may survive!.

3!. Physical (body and mind) death!. When death overtakes a human being, the Spirit remains in the citadel of the mind until it ceases to function as an intelligent mechanism, about the time that the measurable brain energies cease their rhythmic vital pulsations!. Following this dissolution the Spirit takes leave of the vanishing mind, just as unceremoniously as entry was made years before!.

After death the material body returns to the elemental world from which it was derived, but two nonmaterial factors of surviving personality persist: The pre-existent Spirit, with the memory transcription of the mortal career, and there also remains, in the custody of the destiny guardian, the immortal soul of the deceased human!. These phases and forms of soul, these once kinetic but now static formulas of identity, are essential to repersonalization on the next Spirit worlds; and it is the reunion of the Spirit and the soul that reassembles the surviving personality, that reconsciousizes you at the time of the morontia awakening!.

For those who do not have personal seraphic guardians, the group custodians faithfully and efficiently perform the same service of identity safekeeping and personality resurrection!. The seraphim are indispensable to the reassembly of personality!.

Upon death the Thought Spirit temporarily loses personality, but not identity; the human subject temporarily loses identity, but not personality; on the mansion worlds both reunite in eternal manifestation!. Never does a departed Spirit return to earth as the being of former indwelling; never is personality manifested without the human will; and never does a dis-Spirited human being after death manifest active identity or in any manner establish communication with the living beings of earth!. Such dis-Adjustered souls are wholly and absolutely unconscious during the long or short sleep of death!. There can be no exhibition of any sort of personality or ability to engage in communications with other personalities until after completion of survival!. Those who go to the Spirit worlds are not permitted to send messages back to their loved ones!. It is the policy throughout the universes to forbid such communication during the period of a current dispensation!.

Ah and age old question that not even the smartest people of the world can answer properly!. It just depends from your perspective!. The purpose of living then is just that you enjoyed what little time you had!. If you die in literally a second, then there is no life for you so it doesn't really matter!. But if you live a certain amount of years, then die, you want to make sure you at least had fun during that time!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Would you consider it appropriate to define purpose of life as morality!? The purpose of life is to lead a "good" life!. Of course we then have to define what it means to lead a good life!. Now, assuming there is an objective morality, the good life must be in line with that!.

When considering morality there are several ways to divide theories!. The most significant and relevant(as far as I am concerned)to this question is consequentialism vs nonconsequentialism!. Basically it comes down to what you consider the relevant point in a moral event, the consequences of an action or the intent behind an action!.

If the morality of an event or person is based upon the outcome we run into some significant practical and conceptual problems!. First of all, it is impossible for us to know all consequences of our actions!. Even if we could, that knowledge could change our decision which would change our knowledge which could once again change our decision and we can't really get out of that loop!. If this is the case then consequentialism is basically no longer a moral theory in that it loses the ability to be prescriptive(tell us what we should do in certain situations)!. Any ways around this have to use some sort of intent as an evaluation point and thus become nonconsequentialist moral theories!. (I can explain this further if you would like!.)

This leaves us with intent based moral theories which do not require anything to happen when we die or at any point really but instead all that is relevant is our intent to do the right thing!.

We of course then have to evaluate what the right thing is!. Assuming there is no Christian God (which us dying and the "soul" not surviving requires) we have to use some other form of evaluation than Divine will!. This, I would say, must be logic since anything else is subjective and thus can not lead us to an objective moral theory!. If you look into Duty Theory(Kant) than you will learn more about Universal Maxims and the sort of moral codes that are logically consistent!.

I would then say that the purpose of life (if there is no "afterlife") is to lead as moral a life as possible!. Of course to accomplish this we need as much knowledge as possible and of course must always refrain from any willful ignorance!. So to lead this moral life we need to gain true Knowledge and thus the purpose of life is to search for truth!.

Sorry, I got a little carried away!. I am more than happy to clarify anything that doesn't seem to make sense!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

There is no purpose in life if there is nothing after death!. If we are just a part of the evolutionary chain, why do we have a wide range of emotions like love ,compassion, sorrow, joy, hate, and many more!? Why are we always searching for truth and happiness!? Surely they are not all needed if we just live and die!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

We all have to find our own answers!. What I've found to be true is that love is much more important, powerful and wonderful than I ever imagined!. I sometimes have to do some work to put my mind in the kind of space to realize that, but I still feel like I'm a beginner at finding out about love!. If you live the best life you can live, you are being true to yourself!.!.!.assuming you care about things like that!. What I've found about love has led me in the direction of believing we have purpose and meaning to our lives!. That's what works for me, and if you've lived a good life by your standards, you've lived a good life!. Best wishes in finding whatever answers work for you!Www@QuestionHome@Com

To leave an impact and influence the world and those who will remain in it after you are gone!. To provide and receive love from friends and family, to make people happy, to leave an impression on those you leave behind so you have made their lives a little better!.

Not saying that's exactly what I believe, but I can understand this point of view!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The purpose of life is to validate our worthiness for eternity!. That worthiness is not based on our actions or philosophy but in the relationship we have with God and Jesus the son of God!.

Those that are unworthy well just so you get the idea, this man was given a vision of hell and told to go tell others so some might be saved, I hear it is a best selling book too!.

As far as the other option, heaven we can look at Don Piper!. He was declared dead in a head on car crash and talks about what he saw!. A Baptist Minister came upon the crash and felt that he had to pray for the "dead guy", a very strange thing for a Baptist! So he got in the crushed car (the body was still crushed in the car) and started to pray and then sang the hymn "What a friend we have in Jesus" and when he got to the part that says "because we do not take everything to God in prayer" Don started to sing along!. Apparently the minister had some problems convincing the ambulance and police that "the dead guy is singing"!. Here are some links!.
