Question: What do I need to do or have before I can plausibly call myself a philosopher!?
I feel like I'm a philosopher, but don't have any qualifications or anything for it!. My only philosophical work is my blog site, which I'm writing in short chapters a bit like Voltair's Philosophical Dictionary!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

All you have to do is love wisdom, literally!.

(Though you should spell Voltaire with an 'e' on the end!. I loved his 'Candide' give it a read sometime, it's insighful and even hilariously funny!. Yes philosophy can be done with humour)

Wittgenstein believed that formal training in Philosophy actually reduced your ability to be a good philosopher!. He believed that you have to find your own insight instead of just walking down the same old path as everyone else!. He is widely regarded as a very good philosopher!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Alright, first off, for the blog, link us!. Secondly, first grade science books say "Anyone can be a scientist! Even you're a scientist if you ask questions and try to find answers!" Even though we're not first grade scientists, and we know the real-world distinction between a "scientist" and someone who watches a lot of the Discovery Channel, the definition for "philosopher" is, in the same way, undetermined by your schooling!. All you need to do is to try to think about the way things are, how they could be different, maybe read up on the history of philosophy, even some Sophie's World could suffice for background information and so you know what's already been said by dead philosophers; and don't be doing it to garner respect!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

As a few others have suggested, the fact that you're questioning the world around you and to put a high value on truth, virtue, and wisdom is enough to make you and anyone else who does so worthy of the title "philosopher!."

As for the others who suggest going to college and getting "credentials", that's mostly a fallacious argument, unless you're looking for a "job" where philosophy, logic and critical thinking from first principles is required, but that's about it!.

For example, most adults have a "credential" called a driver's license!. That doesn't necessarily make them good drivers!. As a matter of fact, I know people who never had a license who are better drivers than those with a state mandated piece of plastic in their wallet!.

Saying that you must have "credentials" is what we call in philosophy, an "appeal to authority!." If you're a good philosopher, you'll likely find yourself realizing that the belief in the authority of men is one of the most, if not the most destructive of all mythologies!.

Truth, virtue, and wisdom are the philosopher's only authority!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You just asked a question!. That makes you a philosopher!. Especially as your question isn't "vente or grande!?"Www@QuestionHome@Com

You need to be employed as a delivery man at a reputable business!. I would recommend Pizza Hut!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
