Or do they live thousands of miles away, in their exclusive world of wisdom and knowledge, in a world made deliberately inaccessible to the rest of us where they are in control of the "truth" and feed us small portions of their wisdom, once in a while, just to tease our appetite!?

You don't even have to visit a library anymore as most of the information's free on the internet!. Intellectuals can also be amazingly ignorant of how the real world works, in which case the masses are better off not wasting their time on such intellectual garbage!.Www@QuestionHome@Com The picture of intellectuals you describe is a demonization and gross caricature invented and heavily used by conservatives (especially neocons), the religious right, and other anti-intellectuals!. The truth is, of course, just the opposite!. Intellectuals want knowledge and rational thought to be the rule rather than the exception, and for it to be practiced far and wide!. If it's lonely at the intellectual top, it's not because intellectuals are trying to preserve some sort of monopoly on truth but because the anti-intellectuals are waging an extremely successful campaign to pit the masses against the intellectuals--against rational thought!. They grab at a very small piece of the fabric of life and build their theory on this, building outwards!. Rarely covering all the bases and never overlapping the works of others!. Intellectuals should learn to communicate their knowledge, musings, and interpretation of the truth on a everday level so that normal people may benefit!. It is experience and good perception of Life that makes the intellect bright and philosophical!. Those who are away from people and claim they are intellectuals, are just people who enjoy listening to themselves!. Everyone has their own space and time and way of thinking and that is the freedom of having our own ideas!. No one has the right to control our thoughts or how we believe! there is no exclusive wisdom, only wisdom that is acquired by those who wish to learn!.
