Question: Eternal Recurrence of the Same!?
I've been trying to wrap my head around this concept for some time!. Once, I had heard it explained with a scientific bent!. Does this make sense!?
Assume time is infinite, and both space and matter are finite!. As such, only finite configurations of matter in space can occur, and will occur, before a particular pattern is repeated!. Since time is infinite, every possible configuration of matter has occurred infinitely in the past and will occur infinitely in the future!. Our existence has occurred infinitely in the past, and will occur infinitely in the future!. Every other configuration of matter in space has occurred infinitely in the past and will occur infinitely in the present!.
I know this is taking the human experience out of Nietzsche's thought!. I'm just wondering if this "scientific" reading of the thought is accurate, or if anyone has heard it stated like this before, or if there are any other thoughts about it!.

I am not sure the doctrine was meant as a metaphysical or scientific position!. I think the doctrine was more meant as an ethical thought exercise that one should fully love life!. Think of this moment as being eternal, because we will relive it, in the flux of change!. If you truly love life you could eternally relive moment of your life!. Think of it like a metronome!. Point A departs and arrives at point B!. Point B then departs and arrives at point A!. Tic-tock, tic-tock!.
This happens with the earth as well, the axis is on the N then it switches to the S and this continues!.
The end may seem like the end, but then it switches and becomes the beginning!. This is also the theory around "life after death"!. The egyptians believed that the end was the beginning!. What is the end of one thing, is the beginning of something else!.

Which came first the chicken or the egg!? While the theory behind it is sound I doubt science could prove it!. However if you believe as I believe that space and matter are not finite then that opens up a world of new possibilities!. I base my theory on the fact that things in the physical realm can change thus while the fundamentals of matter and space are true the finite details can be altered!. It is like day and night following one another competing each other!. People are coming and going!. Some leave their good imprint!. Some appear and vanish without any notice!.

Yup thats right! I would agree with Nietzsche but I am more inclined to believe the big bang theory which disproves this line of reasoning in that it shows that the universe is expanding and may in fact be finite!.!.!. not etternal as Nietzsche claims it to beWww@QuestionHome@Com
