It is one thing to study, but quite another to integrate your knowledge in your mind and apply it!. If there is a philosophy that resonates with you, you need to adjust your day-to-day thinking to be in line with that philosophy!. When you catch yourself out of line, correct yourself!.

If you are egoistic and the spiritual principles you have studied say that self-centeredness leads to unhappiness (which they basically all do), then when you catch yourself being self-centered, you need to focus on being other-centered - focusing on the well-being of others and forgetting about your ego!. It is a conscious decision and positive action you must take!. As you do this more, it will gradually become an ingrained reaction!.

A technique for "getting out of your head" (i!.e!. not being self-focused) is to take a few minutes in nature and listen - truly listen - to everything that is going on around you, without thought!. It will teach you to quiet the noise in your mind that you pay too much attention to!.

If someone wrongs you, you must forgive!. That does not mean condoning, it means letting go of anger - also a common theme among different spiritual traditions!. Remember the other person also has his unhappiness, trouble and worry!. Fundamentally you and he are the same!. One technique is to pray that the person receive every blessing you would hope for yourself!. Say that prayer often, and your mind will gradually let go!. One tradition may say to "turn it over to God," another may say to "let go of an unhealthy attachment," but it is all the same thing!. Again, it is a positive action, not passive!. You choose whether to spend this moment - which will never come again - in anger, sadness, self-pity, and self-focus, or in happiness and harmony with the world!.

Don't take yourself too seriously!. There is an expression, "wear life as a loose garment!." Life doesn't have to be so heavy and serious!. In five years, or even five weeks, will you remember what you are so upset about right now!? Usually not, so it is not worth the negative energy now!.

The trick to benefiting from your learning, which is impressive and useful, is to apply it!. Think of it as a living thing, this set of principles, and not words on a page that you memorized for a degree!. You must align your thinking with whatever spiritual principle you seek!. It is you that must change, not the world!.

It takes time, patience and dedication, but it can be done by anyone!. I have not achieved it, but am working on it, and can feel the difference!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Your philosophical knowledge is useful for three things and three things only, being a philosophy professor, discussing with people who enjoy that sort of talk, and pondering when you can't sleep!. If you want to be happy, do not rely on the philosophy you have just memorized from a textbook!. Most really happy people have a much simpler philosophy, do what you love, and spend time with the people you love!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Through rigorous study, I have determined that more intelligent people tend to enjoy life far less than the average or below average people!. Is your friend less intelligent than you!? I bet he is!. Are you smart!? I think you are!.

What can be done!? Well, sometimes the best solution is to just become one with nature!. You should abandon your friends, family, and possessions in order to seek out a free life with the woodland critters!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
