Question: HELP ME UNDERSTAND, why is america leaning so far to the left to vote for OBAMA!?
Though we doubt most Americans realize it, this would be one of the most profound political and ideological shifts in U!.S!. history!. Liberals would dominate the entire government in a way they haven't since 1965, or 1933!. In other words, the election would mark the restoration of the activist government that fell out of public favor in the 1970s!. If the U!.S!. really is entering a period of unchecked left-wing ascendancy, Americans at least ought to understand what they will be getting, especially with the media cheering it all on!."

>>they wouldn't get elected if they were too far one way or another!.

That's right!. That is why they say one thing while campaigning, and do another when they get in office!. They will never admit to the "L" word!.

Democrats get most of their agenda accomplished by using the courts (Roe vs!. Wade, for example) - they know the majority of the country would never buy their liberal agenda at the ballot box!. What scares me the most about Obama, is the next president will choose at least 2 new Supreme Court Justices - maybe 3!. As it is there is a 5-4 liberal leaning!. If that were to become 7-2 or 8-1, hello socialism - socialized health care, socialized education!.

And that doesn't even include gutting the military!.

No!. If liberalism is what you hate then you needn't worry about getting that with Obama!. Since JFK was killed, the US has been pushed very far to the right in comparison to what it was in the 60's!. Obama is far right of center and will make Americans sacrifice, code word for suffering from having their social programs, like social security, medical for the elderly, infrastructure, slashed with a meat cleaver!. Liberalism is nurturing and conservatism strict adherence to rules, or you will suffer!. Obama is willing to make us suffer to cut social programs and give our money to the rich like the way he voted for the bank bailout!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

America isn't making an ideological shift!. Obama has just been moving slightly closer to the center during the general election!. Bush's unpopularity has soured the public's taste for conservatism and Republicans, so they'll vote for whoever the alternative is!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's a sign that the human race has evolved from the old-fashioned, archaic right-wing govern!.

I think McCain is too far to the right,

and this scares people who may otherwise have been slightly right-wing in their thinking!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You know, neither of the two parties swerves too far from the middle!.!.!. they wouldn't get elected if they were too far one way or another!. A Healthy middle is good for everyone!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

With the right (Bush & Co really) things are going down the crapper!. The change slogan is working so well because people are ready for it in a big way!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Because the time of radical Christian extremism has past!. Long live tolerance!
YAY OBAMA!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Hurray!

Well, that cheered me up a bit!.

McCain for 2008!!!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

To judge by McCain's rhetoric, if we lean far enough to the right to elect him, we'll fall over!.

The notion of "unchecked left-wing ascendancy" here is ignoring the fact that the U!.S!. has been shifting steadily to the right since Nixon!. There comes a point in every swing toward a political extreme at which either the pendulum begins to swing back, or its connection to the fulcrum breaks and the weight flies free!. The difference between the U!.S!. and extremist governments such as the Maoists or Nazis will be significant if we swing back!.

Obama's election would not in fact return us to anything like normalcy!. I admit that we might wind up eventually swinging to the left again, but the government elected in 1932 (to cite one of your examples) beat the heck out of the incompetent alternative, which was why it was elected!.

Currently, the U!.S!. has been dominated since 1968 by
(1) contempt for human rights, whether those of foreign nationals or our own citizens;
(2) cruel fantasies about tax cuts--if they always paid for themselves, we wouldn't be in a $10-trillion hole;
(3) fascination with government power, untempered by any respect for law, including torture, war-making, executions, government control of sexual relations, and widespread attacks on free speech;
(4) a sort of determination to prove government activism inappropriate by demonstrated incompetence in military actions, economic oversight, environmental and educational management, and ethics; and
(5) nearly three decades of misuse of the tax system to reapportion wealth, while arguing that this is appropriate because instead of distributing wealth (which they oppose), it's being used to concentrate it!.

These are typical of extremists who have become so enamored of their own political "principles" they have failed to notice that they are so far round the twist you could use them for corkscrews!. At some point, the voters generally notice these people couldn't clean a fresh-caught potato, and decide to throw them out!.

We may swing to the left, in reaction, to the point where we are dominated by left-wingers with similar failings, because they aren't typical of those right of center, they are typical of those out on either wing!. If so, we'll be getting our entertainment from new sources before we swing back again!.

This is as much a question as an answer, and I would like your view:

It is possibly because the Republican Party has indulged itself to the point of becoming unelectable!. The British Labour Party, which had been seen as the 'natural party of government' during the 1960's and early 1970's allowed its internal politics to destroy it in the 1980's!. It failed to restrict the lunatic fringe element, because it relied on that section of the party for its most energetic campaigning and political activism!. Eventually the rabid left became dominant, and the party was doomed to opposition until it cleaned out its house!.

The Republican party has been relying in the same way for funds and activism from extreme religious groups, who have gained influence in the party until moderate voters treat it with suspicion and distaste!. It too could end up in the wilderness till something changes, and mainstream voters turn back towards it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
