Question: In your own opinion - is it better to be feared or respected !?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
depends on who you are - i'd prefer to be respected!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

To be feared means people don't like you, to be sure!. Many people prefer to be feared and would like to be feared which is a sign they probably don't have healthy relationship with others!. There are then people who actually are feared by others but it is not because they want to be feared or work on it somehow but because they are simply such a personality!. It is much better to be respected than to be feared!. Respect means others look up to you as to somebody to be admired, loved or followed as an example!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Respected - Respect means people admire you and support your aims so much that they will stand by you when you're vulnerable or at your greatest!. Respect has an element of fear, people do not fear you, but they fear the thought of losing you!. But best is that they stand by you because they want to and not because they have to!.

Fear means people are terrified of you and for that reason, they will stand by you through tough times but only when you're at your greatest!. A lot of dictators and monarchs of the past have ruled with fear and often their demise has come through betrayal fueled by hatred!. Fear dominates more than respect does because a feared man will not be questioned but a respected man will be questioned when his decisions seem unplanned!. But with fear, people stand by you because they have to and once they don't have to !.!.!. well that's just another history lesson about fearfull monarchs!.

Respect will cause a man to run into a fire just to save you but fear will only make the man pray for the fire to keep burning!.

Isn't respect obviously better than fear!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

A country should be feared, a person should be respected!.

World history has shown that the most enlightened and wise of nations get walked over by warlords and tyrants!. It is in all our interested to have a defence that will make aggressors think twice!.
As that lovely bloke Caligula once said, "let them hate us, so long as they fear us!."

However on a personal level we have little need in modern society for someone to fear!. I think respect is far more important and progressive!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Ah,now!.The obvious answer is to be respected!.But this is situational,I think!.In some cases you may want to be feared!.If your back is against the wall, respect may not be the best thing!.

also sometimes respect may only come after fear---e!.g!.struggling teacher in wild classroom!.Sometimes only fear{e!.g!.of being ridiculed}will make the students listen, learn leading to respect!.
I don't mean bullying!.But sometimes personal/professional respect has to come thro fear!.

Guess there is a place for both in the real world!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Respected!. It is a more powerful force!. Respect towards the respected remains when he/she is not present; whereas fear just disappears!. You can take the example of death!. When someone respected dies, the respect carries on!. If someone feared dies, the fear stops and is replaced by bad memories!.

Respect every time!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Since all people equivocally said ‘to be respected’, it seems, there simply is no point left for arguing, as I too speak in favour of respect, as the relations based upon respect I find far more yielding, comforting, assuring, and in simple words human in nature!. A relation that is base upon mutual respect and appreciation, where adoration and admiration are peaks of respect and appreciation, could reach a point where it can develop into a form of love or devotion, depending upon the fundamental form of the relation!.

There however is one thing that I find interesting here, i!.e!. the questions of the link between fear and respect – is there something interesting in that link, and why you have pitched respect against fear!? Perhaps this is because both fear and respect are often used to bring order and discipline into disorder and chaos, i!.e!. respect is the prerequisite for love, as I mentioned before, and fears seem to work where nothing else seem to get things done for instance!.

But there is no need me reminding you that fear is the most cumbersome of all emotions, nothing comes out of the excesses of fear, but chaos and mistrust in the end, and for fear to qualify to be present in the mind as something humanly useful there has to be some reason behind, the principle seems to be!.

Then what other reason could connect fear with respect than the fear of losing respect, and on the other hand, fear of losing the favours of the ones who one might have respect for!. It seems to be true the once mutual respect is gone then there is nothing to hold anything else in a relation in place, as there is so much that depend upon our faith, trust and regard for each other!. This is then also true that a lose of respect leads up to the bring of chaos, where anything can happen in an instant, in comparison with the time it takes to earn respect!.

We should not fear!. And we should not be the cause for creating fear in the minds of other persons - even to our own children, friends or relatives!. It will have bad repercussions!.

One should command respect in the society!. This respect should come from the other person spontaneously!. Not because of fear!. The respect should come because of our stature!. One with highest standard of excellent behavior and discipline commands respect in the society!. A highly education man, a man holding high position, a man who is great in his special arts like music, etc!. will command respect from his fans and followers!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think its much better to be respected because people will want to be around you!. I pity people who others fear because they will be lonely and excluded from many friendships!. Sometimes its not their fault, they are just unhappy and may have mental problems!. Being different is okay if it is you being yourself as long as you can find other people like yourself whom you can be friends with!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

On almost any other day I'd have said - respected but - today I am not so sure - There is a character in The Robber Bride called xenia who asks this question and says that she herself would rather be feared 'because it works'!.

I have recently met a raft of unpleasant people and had a change of heart they have nothing to learn from me as they are closed down and just smearing their disappointments in life out wherever they can find someone to dump on,
I have eventually had enough love in my life to be able now to respect myself and where there is going to be no cultural exchange of spiritual learning - no mutual respect - fear might well work for me because it is the pits respecting someone who is poking you in the eye and claiming that it is all your faultWww@QuestionHome@Com

Respected!. You can be a mean and nasty person and people will fear you!. But being respected brings you honor!. Respect is part of integrity and it is much better to have integrity than to be feared!.

Thank you for asking!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
