Question: What is the difference between ontology and epistemology!?
No dictionary definitions please, i could do with some concrete examples of how they are related and why epistemology is often accused of ignoring ontology!. Thankyou, not easy i knowWww@QuestionHome@Com

I like the paving slab example but I would add to it by agreeing that ontology is a paving slab where epistemology is when philosophers wonder HOW we know it is a paving slab!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.the answer to which tempts many of us to drop it on their head! Www@QuestionHome@Com

Wel, the root of the question lies in the basis of each term as a separate entity of philosophy!. If you think for a moment about what epistemology is designed to evoke, in terms of thought, then you can see how it would seem to preclude any ontological validity!.

If an ontological argument states a truism, epistemological analysis would seem to be the counterpoint to the argument, iterating that such truisms are incapable of existing because knowledge itself is incomplete or 'flawed' somehow!.

If ontology is the study of the question of existence, and its nature, then epistemology, by necessity, must challenge any ontological argument!.
